Hello All, Yeah I'm brand new to this forum... and somewhat new to mapping with Radiant. I am currently working on a map that is a bit complex and because I have some issues with the way cityscapes have been done before; I am looking to make it as realistic as I can stand (LOL). I can make the brushes and the general design (I have already gone through some painstaking work there). The map is somewhat of a between our technological level and that of the Star Wars: Prequel Trilogy. It contains a small hotel, an elevated-tram and track with station (stairs on multiple sides all heading the station below), a few large buildings (skyscrapers, though you can only go into the lower levels), and a small roadway with an intersection (and hopefully stop-and-go traffic later--need info still for it too). My problem is that I am not so good at textures and shaders. I currently am using ingame textures (only for showing me what color and base-design for each viewable surface) with below-average textures for the roadways. I guess I'm asking for some help for the textures only as the design I already have started and have planned pretty much the rest. If anyone can spare some time to help me with shaders and textures I'd be indebted. Just post what you can help with and I'll tell you what I'd like and we can go from there. Thank You in Advance
bobaandyHave you tried the lovely tutorial i wrote a while ago
If I weren't already ill from that Chinese food I had yesterday, I would be now.
No offense, but that's not really useful, and doesn't even begin to address actual texture creation, which is what our friend here says he's not very good at.
I don't know how, and I don't know why, but this is totally Sheep's fault.
I wouldent reccomend chinese again, Kouen ;). The basic idea was just to help people get a texture in-game, and many people i know have used it and they all found it helpful. I pointed out Google for textures, as i thought hed know that we cant help him with his artistic skills.
I have used tutorials from sites and know how to put textures in, i've done it so I know generally how things I'd like to look, it's just all I have is MSPaint and Paintshop Pro 8. I am asking for help in designing textures cause I can't make them to my liking. Google has some good images, but only for references and idea-making (plus in some cases it is improper to use certain pics from other sites).
Sorry to post so soon, I know it isn't suggested; but I have refined what it is that I would like help creating. I really would like three or so shaders: a street light (just a top-I can handle the post) a spotlight for lighting up buildings and outside of glass (I'll get to why I'd like it even though it may not be best, it's just an idea). The street light I would like the light to be orange. The spotlight I'd like a very light teal. The source of it I had invisioned being prism shaped where it could shine two spotlights in a v-shape, it not being fancy. The glass I'd like one version a light green and another just white. The reason for this is because the map is a section of city at night. Thus the windows closer to the player would appear to emminate light (those he isn't capable of getting next to which will be clear and light will be shone out of anyway). This would be a really cool affect in my opinion... I just wish I was able to do graphics with any skill. I would most appreciate help from anyone who can do at least one of these. With the shaders, if you can send me where they can be properly explained, I might be able to do that since the source wouldn't be a difficult texture. Thank you for reading my requests.
Do you mean textures?
Yeah, basic floors, walls, outside; nothing extravagant. Maybe 1 black style, one light stone. Maybe (though I'm probably pushing it by now, lol) steel wireframe as a third type of structure.
