One of my cd's was scratched up near the outside of the disk all the way around. (bad cd reader, turned the computer and scratched the whole outside in a circle) I'm trying to install but I guess one of the assets was on the outer rim of the cd. Is there any way I could copy it on to my computer and get a copy of the 1 assets folder I need and install from desktop? (there are 3 or 4 assets folders on the cd, and I only need 1)

No, there isn't. A good clean and a little restoration should fix it, though, unless the disc has really been gouged, but I doubt that'd be the case - the CDs tend to be more resilient than people think (although my copy of Planescape Torment disagrees >_> ).

(Before anyone pipes in with any "methods", don't. Legality, folks, legality...)

If it was CD1 that got damaged, you're screwed anyway, since you need that disc to play.

Yes some CD's are VERY resilient, as in my friends case when his CD wasn't working, he took out a knife and scratched it all up, then he put the CD in the computer and it worked. In you sitiation try to put in a blank CD then take it out so a blank folder appears then put in JA and see what files show up.

It was a old cd reader that did this. It made a huge deep gash in a circle around the cd. It's very deep and it damaged only one area of the disk. No error messages show up when I explore the disk but when I try to copy it to my desktop (thought I could install there when it wouldn't install off disk) it gives me a error message on the pack 4 (data cab 4 or assets 4). So I need new copies of those files.

after some cleaning I managed to get it to to 100% but now it asks for disk 0 and data4.cab can someone tell me where or on what disk this is, because I can't find it on either of mine.

There is no data4.cab....

You should be able to cancel the installation at this point, and if it doesn't delete the files it's already installed, the game should be playable. All you'll need to do is manually create the registry entry.

Check to see if the files are installed if you cancel the install when it asks for data4.cab, and then I'll try and give you a rough tutorial on adding a manual registry key.

No, it removes them, it must have some reason for asking for data4.cab?

It's certainly not supposed to ask for it, since it doesn't seem to exist.

when it asks for data4.cab: ctrl-alt-del -> processes -> locate setup -> terminate

setup stopped, no files removed, game should run just fine JA doesnt use the registry to begin with (alright it does put some values in the registry, but they're not NEEDED to run the game ^_^)

assets4.pk3 doesnt come with the game, assets4.pk3 is installed when updating to v1.01, as long as you have assets0 and 1 intact, the game should run
