My computer seems to be on the fritz when I play JKA. Long ago when I first installed it, it worked fine and dandy on the biggest of maps...but now it's all unstable and it crashes before the map is even fully loaded.

Part of this might have been because I did a total reinstallation of all the programs after my computer got a virus. The only difference is that when I installed it, the program was all cappy and incapable of running the bigger maps. Even worse, it got worse with time. Finally, I am no longer capable of playing the larger maps with more details, something keeps crashing my game. I've got a few mods loaded, but they aren't helping.

I know I should check to see if everything checks out, and the small check list says everything is good for running the game. I'm not sure how to update my computer, so if there's an update I'm missing, please give me the link.

thanks for any replies

It sounds like a Driver issue. Try updating Drivers.

I'm not even sure where to get the updates for the drivers, if you could find me where I get the update, that would be unimaginably great, and thank you for the help.

okay, I can't fnd the edit button...but I need to explain a new problem that has come up. My game just recently started loading maps, then crashing as it attempted to retrieve snapshots. NOW I've got an even worse problem, my game won't even load up the map at all. I keep getting an error, I'm not sure why...I'll put it up.

]name; glGetError() = 0x500 Loading dll file ui. Failed to load dll, looking for qvm. Loading vm file vm/ui.qvm. Failed. Shutting down OpenGL subsystem VM_Create on UI failed

It's pretty freaky...it just crashes before the loading screen for the map comes up, and that message pops up. I'm really starting to get annoyed with how hard this game is to operate, and for some reason my game doesn't need the patches.

As for the drivers, I'd need to know how I could see if it was actually a problem with the drivers..I've explored my computer thoroughly, but I could use some direction on how to see my current drivers and if they work.

I can understand why you're confused. Just pointing out that it's a drivers problem isn't very helpful, considering how many drivers your computer uses. For all you knew it could have been blamed on your Logitech USB drivers.

A more specific answer in this case would be your graphics card drivers. Some older drivers (and some newer ones, too) lack sufficient OpenGL support for Jedi Academy.

Head to the website for the company that manufactured your graphics card, they should have the most recent ones. If the newest drivers install, then good. If you already have the newest drivers, a pop-up box will inform you of this when you try installing them.

And, hell, just make sure you update anything you can think of that can be updated. :p

I don't know how, and I don't know why, but this is totally Sheep's fault.

okay, I updated drivers in general...namely because it was one of two downloads available.

I'm still getting an error message however causing my game to crash.

]name; glGetError() = 0x500 Loading dll file ui. Failed to load dll, looking for qvm. Loading vm file vm/ui.qvm. Failed. Shutting down OpenGL subsystem VM_Create on UI failed

I think the "VM_Create on UI failed" might have something to do with it...but otherwise my drivers should be updated.

And I do have OpenGL...

DirectX 9.0, I assume?

Try copying the assets pk3s from the CD into your base folder, as well, so you have clean copies of them. Seems like the ui.qvm file has been screwed over - something that happens way too often.
