I was a very active and long time player of quake 3 and I always played with the 1 shot rail gun (very similar to JKA's Disruptor).
Anyway, I was wondering if the disruptor was slower than the rail gun in quake 3 because all my dead on shots seem to miss o_o... since they run on the same engine I would of thought that the two would have the same accuracy and over the years I've always thought that the disruptor was much slower in laser speed, is that true?
The disruptor is an instant hit on anything.
You may just be having lag issues.
Well the server I use on quake and the server I use on JKA give me the same ping, so that's why I thought that speed may be an issue.
Hmmmm........I honestly don't know, perhaps maybe your aim isn't quite on? Or maybe you're not charging the shot first. But I doubt that.
Well I wasn't really talking about alt fire, just the usual default fire.
They are both instantaneous, as far as I can tell from g_weapon.c.
Lag and aim are the most likely sources of error.
I see, well thank you for the answers/comments :)
maybe the q3 server you were playing on had a higher sv_fps ? this would reduce the built in lag of the game. (default is 20 for both games i think).
Because the server needs 2 frames to determine stuff.. and the delay between first frame and 2nd frame would be based on the sv_fps. at sv_fps 20 there is 50 ms (1000/20) of built in lag. at sv_fps 40 there is only 25 ms of built in lag.
I hightly doubt that would make much of a difference at all, but it seems to be the only thing that could be different.
