I'm try to compile a map with the bsp compiler labeled "-light -faster" but, for some reason it takes more than 20 minutes on the "SetupTraceNodes". Is there a problem with the map then? Considering its size is a little more than 4000x4000.

************ ERROR ************ safe_malloc failed on allocation of 192937984 bytes

Unfortunately... I waited for 45 minutes only to be met with this error. Can someone tell me what's wrong?

Yep. You're out of RAM, and so the compile cannot continue. Try these steps to help:

If you leave your computer on all the time (like I do), restart it. If you have any unnecessary lights in your map, try getting rid of them - it should help a little (depending on how many you delete). Try to avoid this, though.

And finally, try doing a compile with the "-lomem" switch in the compile line. You'll have to go into project settings and add a new compile that has it. Here's how:

Spoiler: Show

In Radiant, go to File > project settings. You should see all your BSP options listed in the bottom half of the window that comes up. Click on the "add" button on the right side. It will bring up this window: add_bsp_option.gif

In this window, copy and paste the information below, OMITTING the asterisks at the beginning and end. (all the other symbols are necessary.)

Menu Text: ***bsp_Q3Map2: SW JK JA map LIGHTMAP ONLY, LOW MEMORY***

Command: ***! "C:/Applications/GtkRadiant-1.4/q3map2" -v # -game ja -fs_basepath "C:/Games/SW JK JA/GameData/" -light -lomem -fast -super 2 -filter $***

Notice on the "command" line, I have different filepaths than the defaults. You will need to change them to match what you have for your q3map2 folder and your GameData folder, or else it obviously won't be able to find the compiler or the game. (You can find your directories listed in the other compiles, if you would like to cheat. Copy and plaste everything into Notepad, fix it all to match your game, then paste it into Radiant.) Click OK to add the option, and then click OK again on your Project Settings window. Now go to your BSP menu. You should see your new compile option there. If you don't, restart Radiant and it will appear.

HOWEVER! The option I gave you ONLY compiles your lightmap! It will not make a BSP for you. You can use any of the other compiles to start it off, and when it gets to the third compile window (this is your lightmap stage) click the x in the corner of the compile window, THEN run the compile I posted instead. It should work perfectly.

And if ALL ELSE fails, upgrade your RAM. But it sure sounds like you're using a several-year-old computer. Maybe get a nice new one if you feel like it. :]

As said by Nab, you may need to upgrade your RAM. You'd not need a whole new computer, but some more RAM would help a fair bit.

What's your system specs and RAM at the moment?

It seems to be working so far... I'll tell you if it finishes =) It passed setuptradenodes thankfully. (I'm using the lowmem compiler) And your right, my computer is about seven and a half years old. =P And I've used up ALOT of space on it... so at times it has uber low memory. >_< I have the map BSP done, all I really need is the lightmap since I don't want this map to be really bright like the map, for example, Tendron. -_- It's kinda going to be shadowy and foggy. A dark, gritty, atmosphere kind of. Although... it appears to be going rather slow on TraceGrid. Does that have to do with my memory also?

It didn't work. My best bet now is to ask someone to please compile this for me. -_-' I can't get new RAM atm since i don't have enough money... and i'm trying to get this map done ASAP since it's been finished for quite sometime now. -_- I'll upload it to filefront in just a moment... Oh! and if you find a problem with the BSP Compile... you may need to fix any errors that pop up =/ Since I'm unsure of whether they will or not. Don't worry, All the textures used on the map are BASE textures and none are new.

"Oh boy..." Alright... here's the .map file. All I really need is the BSP itself, and have it Lightmapped. I will credit the person who did compile it in my map's main screen. ^_^ (Reason for it being named V2: V1 had alot of problems, such as messed up textures, lack of good spawn points, distance viewing was too long, and the only elevator on the map was WAYYYY TOO slow.) And yes... there is an error. MAX_LEAFFACES. apparently some of the ramps I have are duplicate planes. I hope the compiler knows how to deal with those. <.< OH ONE MORE THING: Please select everything inside the skybox and make it detail. I think I forgot to do that to a few of the brushes. =/

I'll give it a shot, but I'm on 512 RAM.

Kay dude... I'll keep your name in mind if you actually manage to Compile it =/ Problem is, I have 512 RAM also... and I was unable to compile it. -_- it you look at the map its obviously very big. lol.

Yes, I took a look. It is rather big, are you sure it isn't a single player map? :p I'll keep trying, I had two other programs up at the first compile. Also, I notice you have a fair amount of unneeded lights and effects. Also, those steam jets that come out of the pipes in the hallways...you may want to connect them to an info_notnull, or they'll be going the wrong way ingame (if the effect is setup like I think it is).

As I said, I'll keep trying, but I'm not sure I'll have more luck than you.
