I have had JA for a while and I have played it fine on this computer before. Earlier this year, I had a computer problem and had to do a system restore. Anyway, I reinstalled JA just this week and now it won't work right. The game is fully installed, but when I go to play it either in SP or MP, a black box pops up with yellow text in it, then before I can read it, the whole screen goes black. What is even stranger, is that after the screen goes black, I can still hear all the music and sound effects so I know that behind the black the game is running.
Here is what I have already tried to fix it. First, I tried uninstalling and reinstalling it. Then, I checked my video card driver, and it is the most recent one. I checked Direct X, and it is the most recent one too. I also checked windows compatability, and everything is fine. I have no idea what the problem is, nothing seems to fix it!
HP Pavillion a320n OS is Windows XP (with Service Packs) 2.08ghz AMD Athlon XP processor NVIDIA GeForce 4 MX graphics/Video Card
OMG! I thought that my computer is the oldest one around here! :p Your graphic card is quite old. Have you tryed using some older driver version? Some games have issues with newest drivers if the graphic card is old. Also , have you checked the BIOS? Updating it may solve the problem. It worked for some people with few games.
Unless I'm missing something, the BIOS shouldn't really cause any issues like this o_o
That area with yellow text is the console, can you possibly print screen what it says before the screen goes black and tell us what the error is?
Wow, GeForce 4. Thats like 2002. High time for an upgrade. Anyway, in your system restore, chances are something got deleted or changed since thats pretty much what it does. Instead of just checking if you have the latest version of stuff, actually download and reinstall it. BIOS isin't gonna be affected from a restore.
The black box with yellow text is normal, its called the console.
When the screen goes black your computer is changing its resolution so you can play the game in full screen.
Not being able to see the game, but still able to hear it is a clear-cut sign that you'r card is just too old now.
BIOS stand for basic input\output system. It shouldn't matter to games though. Only if your upgrading from an older OS to a new one.
I think you may need a new graphics card. The same happen to me. I had an old one, I then got a more of the newer models and shazam! It worked.
Heres two tips
1. New drivers aren't always better
2. Have they card manufacturer install the card for you, It puts a monkey on their back if they break something.
Hope it helps
Two possibilities: It coul be a failing video card Maybe your screen can't support that resolution.
In your game menu, can you set your full screen resolution to 1024x768 or even 800x600 and see if that fixes it?
Pht, GeForce 4? My dad has a computer with a GeForce 2 in it. It was called a "gaming system". Pht.

Yeah , that would be great if he could see anything on the screen. :p Can I buy that GeForce 2 card from your father? I`d love to have a piece of ancient history in my house.
Buy? The shipping alone would cost 10 times as much as thats worth.
OK, first of all, I don't think my card is too old, because I played this game perfectly fine for 2 years. I tried actually downloading and installing the latest card driver and Direct X version, just in case they weren't installed right. This did nothing to fix the problem. Someone suggested going back to a previous driver on my card, but I'm not quite sure how to go back to an older driver. Never done that before. There is some good news, I was able to get a screenshot of the console screen before it went black. I have included it in this post.
