Well I brought a hosted server a day ago, I don't have any luck with it. -_- I have used my FTP access to install the japlus mod, put everything in gamedata like normal japlus installation, and also I edited the cfg to my preferences. I copied the cfg and replaced the cfg which came with the server, the cfg was in the base folder. When I use Putty to ./start_jka my server comes up no problem, but when I go ingame... no mod. How do I run Japlus through a hosted Linux server?. I have ftp and ssh access.

I asked my host, and they seem pretty... useless. *jolt*

You have to edit whatever startup file the server uses to have the command line set fs_game japlus in it.

Beyond that, I can't be more specific. I haven't used Jolt in ages, so I barely remember the setup. Sorry. =/

I don't know how, and I don't know why, but this is totally Sheep's fault.

Change it to:

./linuxjampded +set dedicated 2 +set com_hunkmegs 64 +set net_port "27960" +set fs_game japlus +exec server.cfg

Just be sure to use the built-in text editor on the server control panel rather than a text processor on your computer. Linux hates files edited using Windows software.

Actually, that's wrong.

I have always used Windows text editors to edit files run on Linux servers without any problems. Text editors such as Notepad and Wordpad, which come with Windows, work just fine. I also use the free Windows text editor NoteTab Light to edit files. Just download the file off the server using FTP, edit it using a Windows text editor on your computer (Wordpad works better than Notepad), then upload back up to the server with FTP.

novasensou, if you are having problems getting your mod to run your provider should be giving you more support. Ask for tech support there or ask in their forum if they have one.

My server provider sucks. They are useless.....

What kind of file should the start_jka be?, it's currently a .File type. I edited it through notepad and click save, over written the old one. It reads: ./linuxjampded +set dedicated 2 +set com_hunkmegs 64 +set net_port "27960" +set fs_game japlus +exec server.cfg

While that may be true, Jolt servers tend not to like config and startup files edited in Notepad or Wordpad. In fact, the help guide you're given access to with a Jolt server specifically tells you not to use anything but the built-in Linux text editor.

I guess suggesting it was an inherent characteristic of Linux was a bad move, since there are so many builds of Linux available that nothing is an inherent characteristic of it any more.

Although knowing Jolt, they likely haven't upgraded their OS in god knows how long...

The start_jka file should be exactly the same as it was when you first edited it, except for adding the mod command line to the contents. Don't overwrite the default one, though. Make a backup, and never edit that backup. You'll need it if the server's OS still hates Windows-edited files.

Ok i have the server running. The console pops up in Putty right?. I was just on jka with my clan, and the server went down, this is what I saw.

^0N@ Se^7nsou ^0NL^7: Block the following say: ^0N@ Se^7nsou ^0NL: it will be an up up crouch combo ^0N@ Se^7nsou ^0NL^7: it will be an up up crouch combo ./start_japlus: line 5: 30983 Killed ./linuxjampded +set dedicated 2 +set fs_game japlus +set net_port 29070 +set com_hunkmegs 64 +set sv_maxclients 16 +exec server.cfg

Also I need to have my pc on to run the server which is hosted by jolt?.
