I couldnt see naything on the master sticky, so here goes. How do you convert demo to movie file? Is it a difficult process?

It's not difficult if you've done it for a while. But It can be time consuming.

First I will say you cannot convert demos into movie files like .avi, .wmv, .mov and so on. You can convert them to a bunch of .jpgs at the same speed as a normal video (roughly 30 fps)

The command to do that is /cl_avidemo 30 make sure you have /cl_noprint on and /cg_draw2d 0 or you will get stuff all over the place.

It will record the .jpgs in your screenshots folder, once they are in there you need to open up your editor (depending on what you are using it will be different).

Ok, before I go any further may I ask what you are using?

I'd advise using FRAPS instead of going through all that. It records straight to .avi, which you can find in your FRAPS folder ready for editing in Windows Movie Maker, Adobe Premier, or whatever it is you use. Just... be sure you change the encoding before sending stuff in, 'mkay? FRAPS uses the most terrible codec possible, resulting in an unnecessarily huge filesize.

I don't know how, and I don't know why, but this is totally Sheep's fault.

Well, I've tried fraps in demos. Let me just tell you it completely stops the demo from playing, I don't know why it just does. Everytime I touch a button while a demo is running it just stops.

Plus that method is what Master Yoshi and I both use to create our HD videos.

Er, lemme rephrase. I meant use FRAPS to record the footage in the first place, not use FRAPS to record the demo.

I agree with Kouen with FRAPS. I use it all the time. I'm using it to make my new film The Last Hope. Filming should start in a couple of hours if Battlefront 2 arrives today. I need it for the first space scene.

Fraps = sucks because it lowers your framerate and I can say on a 1024x768 resolution on a Nvidia Geforce 7800 256mb Overclocked. Where I have say 100 FPS on FFA3 as a low. Ill get about 20-30 then (with anti-aliasing), that is not enough to create smoothe hand filming. If you don't want that go straight ahead and use it!

Kouen;3387813Just... be sure you change the encoding before sending stuff in, 'mkay? FRAPS uses the most terrible codec possible, resulting in an unnecessarily huge filesize.

Fraps uses a decompression codec which can be bad for people with small harddrives (used to be me, I'd run out of space all the time) The reason they use that codec is that if you were filming and compressing your video at the same time. Guess what, you'd lag to death!
