Let's make this short. I need a new graphics card. I only need it to run, really, Jedi Academy and things older than that. I don't need some hundred dollar thing that's meant to run these massively detailed enviroments. That being said, I want something that will run JA with massive ease, and get me, at the very least, lag-free with very few exceptions. (Right now I get about 20 FPS at the most, and I crash constantly from graphic errors.) I'm willing to shell out maybe $30 at the most, and I'm an absolute dummy at these kinds of things.

So what should I go about looking for in order to run Jedi Academy and the like? Thanks so much in advance for your answers, or any positive input.

I have an ATi GeCube Radeon 9600 SE Gamebuster.

It works perfectly on most big levels with no lag, and High Quality.

It's a huggee improvment from my nVidia TNT 2 pro, which could only run on normal. (Scary, trust me)

And I now finally have Dynamic Glow support for my sabers, which looks awsome. I am not sure how much it was, as I did not buy it, but it is certainly not new. But, just because it is not new it still runs JKA, Halo, Rome:TW, and most other games WITHOUT LAG, or the lowest it goes on JKA is 30 FPS. The highest is 70 FPS.

Of course, I do have a Pentium 4, 1.6 GHz. Not all that zippy, but it gets most jobs done.

That kind of card is going to be outdated in a year or so (to the extent that it won't run most things). Go for something better than that if you're upgrading -- a Radeon 9600 is not much of an upgrade at all, especially considering the 9800 is not much more expensive. I'd personally get something better than that too, though. No sense in buying a new card that's still below average.

$30 will also get you absolutely nothing, not even the radeon 9600. Be ready to break out at least $70-$100 minimum or don't bother.

I don't even have the slightest desire to purchase any game made within the past few years or later. If you're telling me I'm going to shell out $100 for something like that, I might as well go buy a completely new computer. Why don't I redefine myself:

What's the cheapest thing I could possibly fathom buying that'd be better than my current setup. (I.E. I don't crash and can get at least some spiffy effects and whatnot.)

In the long run, you will thank yourself for getting a good card.

Try searching Ebay. I found this after 3 minutes of searching:

eBay: Apollo AGP 8x Geforce 6800 Graphics Card (item 110129832386 end time May-29-07 19:00:00 PDT)

Don't know if it is any good, seeing as I am not searching for one.

And don't get it just because you think the chick on it is hot.

Don't go with ebay. You never know what you're actually buying. Try newegg.
