hey all Just a question...
Ive been setting up a server and did all the stuff on http://www.chopshopservers.com/education/index.htm to make a server.
It sais that you need to open some ports, but on this other page http://www.portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Dlink/DI-524/Starwars_Jedi_Knight_Jedi_Academy.htm It sais all these other ports..
So i did all of em, and is this right?

wrong... You only need 29070 for people to connect to you...that is the port that JKA defaults to, and what the server list that populates pulls from

Actually, not wrong. That gives you a range of ports to open. Many servers don't use port 29070, and use other ports.
In all actuality, you can use any port for JKA. But if you're just setting up a casual server just use 29070 as the port.

First try to start your server & if it has no mod(JABASE) try to put your ip and :29070 as port ! I dont need to open any ports to start a server so try like this and then think about opening ports

2) Servers shouldn't use ports other than 29070. It can cause a lot of connection problems.

That's true, but 29070 is the standard and should be used as such, since that's the port everyone opens/forwards.
Making people open any other ports unnecessarily is putting them at risk. Every port you open increases your vulnerability. Never open any port other than 29070.
Any server that doesn't use the default port is probably a home-hosted (strike 1), JA- (strike 2) "clan" (strike 3) server anyway, and unless it's *your* "clan" server, it's probably not worth playing on.
I don't know how, and I don't know why, but this is totally Sheep's fault.
