i have the heart of the guardian crystal but i dont like the orange color. i decided to try and mod it so that the crystal changes the saber to green. i cant quite figure it out... i have read thorugh these guides: Knights of the Old Republic 2 Files - Basic modding for beginners Knights of the Old Republic 2 Files - Armor Skinning but they didnt help. i have kotor tool and gimp, but is there anything else that i need?
In my opinion, though I'm told GIMP is as good as Adobe Photoshop, I'd go with the trial version of Paint Shop Pro 11 for changing textures. It has a great color changer tool, so you can find the orange blade texture and change its color with the color changer. Using it, I was able to make the K1 yellow saber a much more yellow-ish saber, instead of the orangy look. Other than the KotOR Tool and whatever paint tool you want to use, you don't need anything else. All the other stuff is either probably out of your range of modding or simply comes with Windows.
thx for replying, where is the orange blade texture anyways? i cant seem to find it, or any of the other saber textures.
Go into your KotOR Tool, to start. Then, for whatever game you're playing, go into ERFs. Open up SWPC_tex_tpc.erf. From there, go into the W section and expand. Look for w_lsabregold01.tpc. That should be the file in either game. Click the extract file button, and save as a .tga (*NOT* TPC!!!) to whatever directory you want. From there, you can open it up and play with the saber blade's colors. I don't suggest flat paintbucketing, as that looks awful. If you can, combine paintbucketing with opacity at a somewhat lower setting, around 20 works for me. Using PSP 11's color changer is what I use sometimes. Be careful to color the right parts! Save when you get something you like, and add it to your SWKotor/Override folder. Go ingame, and you should have the color you made in whatever program you used. If you have a problem with it, and it still doesn't work, come back and say and I might be able to help.
ok thx that worked. is it possible to change the texture the crystal uses, example: i make heart of the guarian that uses w_lsabreblue01.tpc for the saber texture, instead of editing and replacing w_lsabregold01.tpc?
Uhh, that was hard to understand, but if I did understand it, then no. I don't know of any other way to overwrite but to extract the blue texture's .tga file, rename it like the HotG texture, and then stick it in override.
