I want to create a mod that changes the combat animations, however this appears to be almost impossible for someone of my skill level (or lack thereof) so if anyone could help or knows of any simple programs or tutorials for Gmax they would be very appreciated.
More details please change the animations how?

yeah I just wanted to improve the moves for combat, I love the game but watching the same few animations gets tedious after a while and the animations really could have been alot cooler
Improve them by stats?Because that has been done and you know in kotor 2 you have all those lightsaber forms there is a mod for kotor that you could download
well, the combat in Kotor 2 doesn't really look that different to Kotor but if someone has made a mod with new combat animations thats really cool, cause the animations used in the game suck. and the whole forms thing could have been made cooler if each form looked different. I want to change the visual movements of the combat so they look a)more like a real fight and b)have greater variety so the combat animations don't get as tedious and c) to (if it's possible) make each of the forms have a different stance and different movments, as they would in real combat and d)to have a difference between melee weapons used by different races (cause they would all have different styles of combat) and make lightsabers have unique techniques

You'd want to check the model modifications made on Neverwinter Nights, the game on which KOTOR and TSL are based in terms of gameplay, modeling and even storyline to some degree. There are several tools available, as well as some turorials on every possible mod. While doing some Hak Packs for Neverwinter, I saw enough similarities between NWN and KOTOR engines and docs to think the very same things achieved in the D&D RPG are possible to get done in the Star Wars RPG's. There already exist multiple Hak Packs changing combat animations in NWN, you should get yourself the proper mod tools for that game and try to find a resemblance to the files and scripts in KOTOR and TSL. I would do it myself, but I find mods and tweaks already take much of the time I'm supposed to spend working!! I have this absurd need of food, shelter and basic services!!

You're right kotor kinda took that engine for them (Shows the have a mind of their own:p)
