The Sith and the Hunt for Bastila - Roleplaying Ideas

First thing - Bastila was captured by the Black Vulkars on landing. They didn't find her lightsaber (the single-bladed one she fought Revan with in the visions). They stripped her robes off her (bet that was fun!), and put her in a slave dancer's outfit. So, how come after you rescue Bastila and are back in the apartment, she has her robes, and a new double-bladed yellow lightsaber? Where the hell does she get those items from? Realistically, Bastila should still be in her slave dancer's outfit, and without a lightsaber, when she's in your apartment. (There's a mod which allows you to keep her slave-dancer's outfit on Kotorfiles.)

The Sith are looking EVERYWHERE for Bastila, that's the whole reason the Sith are on Taris in the first place! Every Sith trooper would have been given her picture and told to watch out for her - she is "Sith Public Enemy Number 1". The Sith want Bastila as much as the USA wants Osama Bin Laden! So Bastila MUST avoid contact with the Sith at all costs on Taris - if one trooper spots her, the game could be up! How to roleplay this situation realistically? Through 'House Rules'.

House Rules:

1. Bastila on Taris

1a. Bastila must not go anywhere in Upper Taris, unless she's wearing a VERY good disguise, one that both changes her clothes and hides her face! One excellent disguise is to give her the light armour feat, put her in a heavy combat suit, and put Motion Detection goggles on her, completely obscuring her eyes and upper face. No-one would be expecting a Jedi to be wearing that kind of equipment - the Jedi are well-known for not wearing armour, since it interferes with many of their force abilities. Also Bastila must be carrying an ordinary weapon, not a lightsaber. A simple quarterstaff is the best weapon for Bastila on Taris, it operates a lot like a double-bladed lightsaber, the ends of it extend out like lightsaber blades when it's activated, and it's wielded just like a double-bladed lightsaber would be. A quarterstaff is a poor weapon, but a lot better than nothing, and it's only for emergencies. (Practicing with a quarterstaff could be the reason Bastila opts for a double-bladed lightsaber on Dantooine.)

1b. Bastila should be given Stealth equipment on Taris, to help her hide from the Sith. Boost her Stealth skill when she levels up, and buy her a Sound-Dampening Stealth Unit. That way, even if the Sith search your apartment, Bastila can switch on the stealth unit and hide in the corner without making a sound, so the Sith won't find her. You can even put Bastila in Stealth Mode and then switch her out of the party, so she's in the apartment, but invisible! In case the Sith break into the apartment, all they'll find is Mission and Zaalbar, who aren't on the Sith wanted list.

1c. If Bastila isn't wearing a disguise, she shouldn't even leave the apartment except in Stealth mode! That means it's extremely risky to use her on the mission to attack the Sith Base for the Launch Codes, because she can't walk around in the Upper City, since if one Sith spots her, they'll contact Malak and he'll be down on Taris like a ton of bricks! Even during the attack on the Sith Base, the Sith might get a message off to Malak before you can kill them all - plus the base will have holocams recording everything that happens in the base, so Malak can access those records from orbit, and will spot Bastila's presence in the assault team - again, likely to come down to Taris himself to find her. Too risky. Suggest using Carth and T3-M4 during the Sith Base attack - they have the least chance of attracting unwanted attention from the Sith patrols in the Upper City streets (remembering Mission and Zaalbar are aliens, and most Sith and Upper City humans don't like aliens very much.)

1d. It's very risky to take Bastila with you even to the Lower City - the Sith could have informers down there. It's also risky to take Bastila to Davik's estate, because for all you know the Sith might have bribed Davik or Calo Nord to watch out for Bastila and capture her, plus Bastila doesn't trust Canderous. So don't take Bastila there either unless absolutely necessary.

2. Bastila on Tatooine and Kashyykk

These aren't Sith controlled worlds, so Bastila is relatively safe, and need not bother with a disguise. But the Czeka Corporation is known to be working with the Sith, and could inform the Sith if they spot Bastila. Although they won't be looking very hard for her, Bastila should not get involved in any kind of conversation with Czerka Corporation representatives, unless she's in disguise. Switch Bastila out of the party before you talk to anyone from the Czerka Corporation.

3. Bastila on Manaan

This is a neutral world, with both Republic and Sith enclaves, and many Sith walking the streets. The Sith can't take action against Bastila directly, but they can still spot her and tell Malak where she is. And Malak wants Bastila so badly that there's a big risk that he might ignore Manaan's neutrality and just take her by force! So, to be safe and maintain your 'undercover mission' profile, Bastila should not go anywhere on Manaan where the Sith might see her, unless she's in disguise. Otherwise she should stay on the Ebon Hawk, which means you have to achieve your objectives on Manaan without Bastila's help.

4: Bastila on Korriban:

Bastila shouldn't even get off the ship on Korriban! This is a planet full of Sith Force-users, all with orders to capture Bastila! A disguise will not work with Force Users - even Stealth Mode might not be enough to keep Bastila hidden.

5. Bastila on Yavin IV Space Station:

The Sith don't even know the station exists, so it's perfectly safe for Bastila here.

Okay, I don't want to comment on the entire post (would take ages...), I just wanna say that it's actually a double-bladed lightsabre that Bastila has got with her...

Bastila has a double-bladed yellow lightsaber with her when she joins your party (although she shouldn't have it until she gets to Dantooine, really). She lost her original lightsaber when her pod crashed - that's why the Black Vulkars were able to capture her, because she had no weapon!

Bastila's original lightsaber was a single-bladed yellow one - you can see her fighting with it in the visions you have of her, on her mission to capture Darth Revan. This would be the lightsaber she lost on Taris.

Brejik and the Black Vulkars didn't know Bastila was a Jedi - they thought she was just a Republic Officer. So that means they didn't find her lightsaber (otherwise it would be obvious Bastila was a Jedi). In which case, Brejik wouldn't have a lightsaber with him when you kill him after the swoop race.

IMO, it's a mistake by the game developers that Bastila has her double-bladed lightsaber on Taris - she shouldn't have it yet.

Right, we never see her get the lightsabre from anywhere. Which means she already had a double-bladed one when she crashed. Why? I'm quite sure we're told by Bastila herself that the Vulkar took her lightsabre. (Okay, I admit, I haven't played that part in a while but I believe that it was that way.) Keep in mind that the events on the Endar Spire didn't take place directly after Revan's capture. Malak first had to take control of the entire army and Revan had to be brought before the Jedi council on Dantooine. More than enough time to get a new lightsabre.

Actually Bastila tells Carth that she lost her lightsaber in the escape pod, that it must have rolled under her seat, and the Vulkars took her captive even as she was searching for her weapon.

No offence, but don't expect an RP thread to last long around here. Been tried before, and it was killed.

In the past, people have roleplayed in the off-topic section. However, it was made clear that roleplaying shouldn't be done here and it kind of got killed, as mentioned by Fyurii. However, things change as time passes and I can't see why it you can't roleplay in the off-topic section. As long as the thread won't be derailed, I'm all fine with it. Do keep in mind that if it turns out to be vice-versa, the topic will be closed.

:moved: to SW:KOTOR off-topic.
