This is just a little KotOR FAQ I wrote, as I was messing around. I’ve just done the questions that have been asked recently, so my apologies if your questions isn’t answered in here. Thought it’d prove useful to some new people, I guess (although some have been answered already, I guess). And of course, feel free to point me on any mistakes, as I'm just a human! :)

My game keeps crashing at the Endar Spire. Is there any possible solution to it? Yeah, there is a solution. However, this does not guarantee it works, specifically on your computer. Personally I’m using Windows XP at the moment, and I’ve found out that my random crashes and game crash at the Endar Spire was solved by doing the following thing. Open up your “swkotor.ini” file, which is in the main directory of your game (C:/Program Files/LucasArts/SwKotOR/swkotor(.ini)). Then, scroll down until you spot “[Graphics Options]”. Open a new line and write this without quotation marks: “Disable Vertex Buffer Objects=1”. Then save your file and it should work. This had stopped all my game crashes at once. Visual, however, I didn’t notice any changes. That could be just me though. This is also proved to be the solution to the major Dantooine FPS problems. How do I install my mods? Usually, the modifications contain a README. If that would not be the case, follow these steps. First, download the modification you’d like to use. Once the download is complete, extract the files to a temporary location (ie. Your desktop). Depending on whether the modification is using a TSLPatcher or simply manual files, you’ll have to approach a different method.

 • TSLPatcher method:

If your modification contains a TSLPatcher, the installation will be rather simple. Open up the executable file and follow the instructions. A pop-up will appear and you should choose the main directory of your game, which should be by default (C:/Program Files/LucasArts/SwKotOR). The files should be installed automatically and you’re all ready to play.

 • Manual installation:

The manual installation is not much harder, actually. Extract your downloaded mod to a temporary location, such as your desktop. Open up the *.zip/*.rar and once again, a README should be in there. If it isn’t the case, try to do the following. The mod files should usually go into your OVERRIDE folder, which should be by default (C:/Program Files/LucasArts/SwKotOR/Override). In some cases, such as movie-mods, the files should go into the corresponding folder (ie. Modules folder). As you can see, the installation of modifications is quite simple once you know what to do. How do I enable cheats and use them? You can enable cheats by going to your “swkotor.ini” file, which is by default (C:/Program Files/LucasArts/SwKotOR/swkotor(.ini)). Open the file and scroll down until you see the category “[Game Options]”. Open a new line and enter the following without quotation marks: “EnableCheats=1”. Save the file and start your game. Once you’re in-game, you can use cheats by pressing the “`“ / “~“ symbol, which is above your “TAB” key. You should see the console at the top-left corner of your screen. However, it depends on your keyboard setting which key you should use to open the cheat console. I would like to start modding. Any tutorials and tools I could use? Yes, of course. You can view some nice tutorials HERE and HERE. If you’d like to use the tools, you can download them on HERE. Is it allowed to port models and the such? No, it is not allowed to port the models of KOTOR II: TSL to KOTOR. It is considered illegal by the developers of the game. Discussions, requests (and the such) on these forums isn’t allowed either. Is my graphical card supported by the game? You can view this information at the helpdesk of LucasArts, known as “Yoda’s Help Desk”. LucasArts.com | Yoda's Help Desk

I cannot seem to reinstall my game, probably because InstallShield is 'bugged'. Yes, in this case, your InstallShield is probably bugged with entries and files of previous installations. This problem also occurs if an installation has been cancelled. This is not always, though. In order to successsfully re-install your game, try to do the following. Open up 'My Computer' and make sure you can view all files/folders. Go to your [C:] hard drive and open 'Program Files'. An InstallShield folder should be visible. There, find the folder with the following name. "{2A9A40C7-6670-4D5F-8F41-D12E2E08B48B}". Delete that file. Watch out, though. Some files have a similar name, so be careful please. To be even more certain of your actions, try deleting your Temp folder, seeing as they could contain InstallShield files still, located here (C:/WINDOWS/Temp). I seem to crash a lot and none of these solutions help. I'm using Windows Vista. What should I do? You're most likely missing the mss32.dll file. You can download it HERE (credits to azariel123 for providing a link in another thread).

Downloaded texture mods and the such seems to appear with blotches and odd colors. Any possible way of fixing this issue? (thanks to Vashknife11). Yes, there might be a possible solution to it, though I have not tested it myself. Open up your texture mods and change the pixels to a lower amount (ie. from 32 to 24, 16, etc.).

This is great. The thread has been stickied and left open, so people can post their questions and helpful suggestions. And with the edit time limit gone, you can edit your post at any time and add more useful informations to it as you learn it. Great work.

Updated the first post, just a tiny section about InstallShield bug. And thanks Tricorder, although I've said that already! :D

hey guys im royally pissed, for some reason when i get mods for the game i can mod TSL easily with no problems (extract files into override than install the given files) but for some reason when i try a mod for Kotor 1, i extract into override but it than gives me a message saying, you do not have write permissions for this file/folder than it gives me the link im trying to extract into (e.g. ://C program files/ SWkotor/ Override) or whatever it is.

Now i tried to go online and check out the problem and they gave me a solution on how i can change the write permissions that specific file (override), so i did change the write permissions so i can extract and install the mod, but it doesnt work, just comes up with the same dam message as i told you about above.

Its real annoying how the modding is working on TSL but not on Kotor 1.

Someone please help me, any info or help email me on robin_flego@hotmail.com or just reply on this post, Thanks all

Hello, I have trouble with my installed mods. I have recently decided to play this again with a bunch of mods, but it seems that I have serious compatibility problems, even though the installer tells me its all right. It doesn't seem so at the start, but after a while, suddenly I cannot access the warp anymore, I cannot leave certain areas and my character changes appearance without reason. I re-installed the game and some of the mods and still have trouble.F.e. I try to leave the Endar Spire via escape pod, but instead of on Taris, I end up in a room with some beds (looks like a room on the Ebon Hawk maybe) and unable to leave. Because I am really frustrated by things like that (having played halfway through the game only to have it crash sucks!), I want to ask someone about which mods are compatible.

I definitely want to use all the Restored Contents and BoS. I also would like to use Added content and Modules like Exar Kuns Thomb, Yavin IV, Tattooine Job Office, Saving Malak and such. If possible as many added compatible quests as possible. Weapon and Armor/Robe mods are only secondary. Nice if they work, but added content and quests has higher priority. After that maybe a bit of more force powers, re-balancing the game and wepon and armor mods. The character and graphic mods are the least important. Can someone help me out with that, as I lost the sight of everything and don't want to try out every single mod for possible compatibilities and errors only to be twarthed again after hours of gameplay.

Thank you very much.

Here's a list of mods I want to use. Can you tell me which are compatible with BoS and restored Content?

Yavin IV (TSL Patcher Update) 1.5 Mod Download Tomb of Jesset Dal'Kest 2.0 Mod exar kun thomb K1 Lost Modules Pack Mod New BIK Movies Restoration Mo Sharina Fizark Restoration 1.1 Taris Lower City Restoration Mod Taris Undercity and Gamorrean Stronghold Restoration Mod Restoration of the Black Vulkar Base 1.1 Mod Dialogue Pack 2.1 Mod Challenging Insane selkath at Manaan 1.0 Challenge Sith Mod Korriban Academy Workbench 2.7 Ebon Hawk Useable Supplies Enhanced Restoration of the Shadowlands Beta Mod The Lost Apprentice Sunry Murder Recording Ehancement 3.0 KOTOR---KORRIBAN 2012 addon Jedi Fight Training 2.0 tatooine_job_office garrum_and_tareelok_restoration_11 enhanced_merchants_k1 save_malak_1.1 sith_academy Spire Dark Jedi Mod Alien Species DLG Correction Mod Uthar and Yuthura Revisited Mod Bastila on Korriban Mod Two Alternate Revelation Movies Mod Revenge of the Sith Clone Armors Mod Mercenaries of the sith 1.0 Mod KOTOR Dialogue Fixes 1.0 Hide The Weapons Mod Deralian Items 1.0 Mod Czerka Clothing Fix Mod BoS_RHJS Compatibility Fix 1.1 ASDLG Correction Patch 1.1 Mod Armour Inventory Icons Overhaul Exar Kun Battle Suit 1.0 Mod

Also there are some inetersting re-balancing and new force power mods. Which of them has the best compatibility to the other mods?

KotOR Skills Rebalancing Mod Beta Mod Download KotOR2-Style Rebalance For KotOR 1.1 Any Feat Mod Mod Content Pack 1 1.10 Mod Force Sensitive 1.0 Mod Feat Progression for K1 Mod Force Powers Feat Gain for KOTOR Mod

I do know that this is a lot and that's why I need you to help me, as I don't seem to get the hand of it.

Hey neosildrake,

Right now I do not have the time to write a reply in detail, but I'll take a look a.s.a.p. and hope I can assist you with it. Please bear with me whilst I work on my job until the weekend (unless someone else happens to come to your assistance in the meanwhile). :)
