Hey guys. Recently installed KOTOR. I've update it, configured it, press game and it loads at the image of the Ebon Hawk and then I get an error box with a bunch of random boxes. It looks like this: http://f.imagehost.org/0611/Untitled_28.jpg

If you need any other information in order to help, just holler.

Okay, to be honest I've never heard of anything like that before... just a few basics - I hope you're running a legal copy of the game (otherwise it's clear to me that it won't work...) - are all of your discs perfectly clean / are there scratches? - what are the stats of your pc? (do you have new-date-drivers for your graphic card?)

don't know that much about technical stuff but do you use WinXP or Vista or whatever-else-could-there-be? (forget to ask that, Zip#1 ? :p )

Legal copy, discs are clean of scratches/dirt. All graphic cards are up-to-date. I've heard downgrading graphic cards is necessary for KOTOR but i'm not sure if this is one of those cases?

EDIT: I was told on another forum to try a no-cd patch. Now I open the nocd patch .exe and it opens the game, but I get the "not responding" errors and it closes. Any ideas?

It's not so much for downgrading your driver. It's just that some work, some don't. Concerning that patch, I have no idea, sorry.

See how the window looks like? That's Vista. ;) So, I suggest trying this:

  • go to your KotoR folder and locate .exe file
  • right click it and choose Properties
  • go to Compatibility tab
  • enable Compatibility mode and set it for Windows XP (Service Pack 2)
  • disable Desktop Composition
  • enable running with Administrative priviledge level
  • click OK and try running the game directly from that .exe file

As for using the NO-CD patch, I believe that's illegal and therefore cannot be discussed here. Too bad this game doesn't have some Vista fix like KotoR 2.

the KotOR on Vista-thing sort of gets me confused anyway... I know one guy who has to play it on an older laptop with XP because no trick would work for Vista and I know two people who just start KotOR 1 and 2 from Vista normally. Without installing the Vista fix. I know what you're thinking, something like this guy: :Puzzled:

^Driver and hardware compatibility :P

Otherwise - sure that the KOTOR is the correct language version? Try starting it like an administrator - Shift+right click - start as admin What service pack of Vista are you running? none, sp1|sp2?

And again language version - what's your vista language version. Boxes just scream unsupported characters at me.

This box only appears after i've updated the game. If I just press 'game' after install, it loads up to the black screen and gives me the "KOTOR has stopped working error." I'm running Vista Service Pack 1.

English (Canada) language version? (Lol)

well as Tricorder said - attempt to start it in compatibility mode right click on exe> (I think it was kotor.exe not laucher exe!) set it to windows xp sp2 And then press shift+right click on the exe and you should get an option to run as administrator - you might be prompted to put in your password. (depends on weather UAC is turned on or off)
