Well here is a brief description of certain key problems I have that tie in together. I recently reinstalled kotor after a year to replay it again. The computer now is the same exact computer I had before.
1. The mouse does not stay a constant and flickers off and on (Like a light bulb going on and off. You can see it then you can't... majority of the time you cannot. Sometimes as well a part of the background of the game itself is blocked behind the mouse and follows it at certain points).
2. A common bug that many people find when on Dantooine on the plains. Your character freezes in place and pressing 'w' makes him spin on a foot. After a little bit he jumps off in the direction he's facing usually to slam into an obstacle. This bug however for my happens several times in areas where it hadn't prior. As well as being even more.. harder to control.
3. When #2 happens the sound begins distorted and static like. It always happens when the above takes place.
When #2-3 happen I typically have found that closing the game completely out. Shutting the computer off then turning it back on will sometimes fix the problem until it happens again. Sometimes this does not happen and I end up stuck like I am right now.
Another thing I should say. The scan of the system shows everything green lighted. The mods I have installed are far less then I had before. They are still the same mods from before...
Here is another little small detail. Since then I had to get a new video card. I got the same exact video card as before... A NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 (128mb vid card). (No I am not interested in you belittling my vid card or suggesting I get a new one. It may be an older card but I have played very recent games on it with no problems).
Last I should also add this. On the very first play through of the game I played with the highest resolution settings. Right now the problem is so bad I have it on the lowest setting and still the same.
A few key things you probably would like to know...
O/S: Microsoft Windows XP Professional (5.1, Build 2006) BIOS: Phoenix - AwardBIOS v6.00PG Processor: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.80GHz Memory 512MB RAM DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0c VID CARD: NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 Approx. Total Memory: 128.0 MB
Defragmentate all of your hard disks, clean up the disk where you have the game installed also clean up the hard disk you have the windows installed. Uninstall some of the useless programs in that bunch of usless programs you have installed. And at last to be sure, backup the savegame folder and reinstall the game.
Have a nice day!
Ow and free up some RAMs
There is no problem with my RAM. As for the rest I just finished and I'm about to test it out.
The Dantoin one i had to every time i play the best thing to do is trying to ignore it for the part of it is kind of not to long its only the enclaved out side part i thing meaning if you on the fields it should stop (we are speaking about kotor 1 right ?)but its like 1 or 2 years ago this i played the part so i could be a bit wrong i joust reached Dantoin meaning when i get to that part i might be able to help more. and for problem one i think i can remembering having the problem but i don't know what i did to fix it i joust know this it is not through a mod sorry this i can not be more help.
I don't believe you are reading fully through it... On Taris... It happens in the apartments... In the room (that you start Taris in). It happens on dantooine (Not on the fields. Inside one of the feuding family buildings). It happens on Manaan (inside the sith base). It happens on Tattooine (inside the hunter shack. Inside the cantina. Inside the swoop race place. Inside the sand people area). When it starts... It doesn't stop. Not even leaving the place it starts (Not to mention how incredibly hard it is to leave)
?then sorry i did not had that bug on the places i only had it on the fields of Dantioin outside the enclave. i don't know what to do sorry
The problem I described above has been figured out. It's a problem you can't fix yourself and it appears in different ways depending on your computers build (My motherboard was on it's last leg. It was fried. I don't have a computer anymore)
