So, I went to some used game shop the other day, and I picked up Kotor for 14 bucks, I thought I made a steal! I loaded it up fine, all four disks work like a charm. I even got it to open fine the first few times, but with errors. The first error is I more or less just STOP, mid-run and warp around the screen, while everyone else moves normally (so it's not an fps related issue). Second and more importantly now when I start it up, everything flickers black, then back to normal. I've tried to find out what to do on other sites but they're not much use, maybe someone here knows what to do? I'll give you a rundown of my system to help. OS: Windows Millenium 4.90 (Build #3000) CPU: AMD K7 Athlon (Thunderbird), 953.21 MHz Video: FPD1810 on ATi VISIONTEK Xtasy Radeon 9250 128MB PCI (1024x768x32bpp) Sound: YAMAHA DS-XG Direct Sound Driver Memory: Used: 457/768MB Uptime: 3h 5m 49s HD: [C:LOCAL DISK] 1.13/19.00 GB [D:GIGABITE] 1.16/7.86 I realize that A) windows ME sucks hardcore B) I'm about 50 mhz below the system requirements (so it reminds me constantly) but I don't think either of these things would cause catostrophic problems like this, more fps related things. Also, I'm using all of the most recent drivers (Though I heard catalyst 4.2 works better for kotor, I can't find it.) The reason I'd like a sollution to get it to work on this computer is my NEW computer is going to have vista, which I also hear doesn't run KOTOR (Damn you microsoft, DAMN YOU) I'd probably just swich back down to XP if I had it.. but alas already ordered.
By warping, do you mean, by chance, that glitchiness on Dantooine? Where sometimes it slows down a lot and you can't run, then you're suddenly on the other side of the module, being swarmed by kath hounds? I get that a lot, too. I'm sorry, but I can't fix it. It seemed to fix itself, and sometimes it kicks back in. If I find anything, I will post it here. :redx: :saber: :curse: Yeah, it's annoying...
Oh, nah. It happened both on the ship and on Taris, I've just started the game really. It doesn't happen in some places like the apartment and the duel arena mind you, those places seem to work fine. It's the larger open areas. As for the flickering, it seems that I had vsync turned on which was causing that problem. Now I just have to fix the warping. And for a description of what I call 'warping' I'm in one place, then suddenly in another without moving. I even move backwards when I'm trying to move foward, quite annoying.
Okdoike I think it may be a problem with your system specs they are a bit on the lower end and the OS windows ME from prior use and what i have heard is a very glitchey OS so that may be a problem that warp you are experiencing is good old lag (which is being your processor and graphics card) try turning the resolution down a bit it may reduce the "warping". As for the vista compatibility cock up a patch MAY be made for it so keep an eye out, but i think KOTOR 2 works on vista so go and check that game out as it is also fun.
i'm very sure its a problem with your system, i have a pc that has Windows XP, 1.5ghz, 448mb RAM and 256mb ATI Radeon, and KotOR still runs like the way you are describing so it has to be your system. I have another computer, but i dont know what your going to do now :(
