It has been a while since I played this game but I recently started playing it again, and I am still having the same problem that I recall having the last time I played it. The game occasionally crashes to the desktop, seemingly at random. Since it does not happen often enough to make the game unplayable, I have largely ignored it thus far, but I would like to know what could be causing it. Does anyone else have this problem as well?
Specs ------- Windows XP AMD Athlon 64 3400+ 2.20 GHz NVIDIA GeForce GS 7600 AGP8x (512 MB VRAM) 1 gig system RAM (512 Mushkin DDR PC3500 and 512 Corsair PC3200)
hit auto update, then save alot during the game, so you won't lose time alot. best you can do.
I noticed something when I quit the game after playing for a long time. A little exclamation mark in the taskbar that said "Windows has increased the size of the page file as you are running low on virtual memory." I've had this computer for several years now and I've only ever seen that message one other time, and that was when I was playing Doom 3 when it first came out, and I have made several upgrades to my computer since then. A game of KoTOR's vintage should not be able to cause such a problem. However, I do have all the settings turned all the way up except for anti-aliasing (which is only at 2x), and I have a smooth frame rate most of the time; the exception seems to be when I am standing in front of smoke, steam, etc. I wish I knew why that was causing such an performance hit. So the question I have is, what could possibly cause this game to being using up so much memory?
Do you have any mods installed?
Just one. It's a mod that removes the armor restrictions for Force Powers.
that shouldent any way possible, if your havein minor lag problems or any, turn your faceing point away if possible from the gas/smoke/grenades/large scale stuff with lots of npc's like somtimes with my old pc with no upgrades i enter a area, my pc starts jumping and lag i turn to the right/left and it stops then just continue on.
Erm... I feel I should point out that the game will not be the only thing taking up memory.
Windows itself, and other programs use memory, if you have a lot of junk running in the taskbar, or even just as a process it will use up memory. I'd try closing all non-essential programs.
It may also be a good idea to make sure you have the latest patch and drivers.
I only have 22 running processes, which isn't bad at all. All use only a very small amount of memory.
I had the same problem, I bought more RAM and the problem ceased. I have 1GB of RAM now.
