:agreed

The people from PCGamemods and the modders claim that it is illegal to mod the game. Which it obviously is not. If this was the case PCGamemods would have been sued and closed down a long time ago. They just spread these rumours so that they are more or less the only big KOTOR download resource.

I would much rather see filefront carrying more KOTOR 1&2 mods. I come here for 5 different games. It is definately legal to mod the game if you own the source material. If this is the type of stuff those PCGamemods trolls are doing, I'll never go to their site. There is only one code of ethics when dealing with unofficial game mods. Provide credits to the creator of the mod & original readme if provided. That is all. I hope the moderators at KOTORfiles get all the mods from their site, and any other site that doesn't receive as much traffic.

Xenomorph Ah hell, just remove all the files from FF and instead hotlink to the appropriate location on PCGameMods and let them deal with the vastly increased bandwidth.

First of all you can't hotlink files on pcgamemods, so there goes that idea.

PCgamemods wants to be a exclusive KOTOR file site, because up untill FN KOTOR site came it, it was just about the only KOTOR host outside of private modders websites!

pcgamemods doesn't want to be anything, if pcgamemods gained the status it did with the KOTOR community, it did so on it's own and independently with that community. I have never pushed the section, it always pushed itself

Again, stop linking pcgamemods' users with pcgamemods itself. I do not care if pcgamemods is the biggest for KOTOR files you are taking what my users' words and applying them as if they were my own.

they are not, so stop pushing that

Once again, judging pcgamemods' users actions as if I had direct control over what they do. If KOTOR fans want to host their files on pcgamemods then so be it, and vice versa.

This whole debacle came from FILESNETWORK not just taking mods (which I don't care that they did) but actually taking the DESCRIPTIONS and SCREENSHOTS written by pcgamemods staff. I was told about it and I asked that they be taken down or changed (the descriptions and screenshots). Then, pcgamemods users came in here on their own merit and decided to request that their files be removed.

I also don't appreciate some of the shots that are being taken at pcgamemods. Your opinion is your own and that's fine, but some of the staff members here have said some things which I don't appreciate, especially when they are raising the "let's work together and be friends" flag. I have my opinions of this site as well, but you don't see me ranting them.

FileFront have a legal team who check the legality with game developers before we create a site, and we have the permission, as far as i know, to host modifications for this game by the developers of the game and to redistrobute them on CD for no profit. This i will look into however, but its unlikely a site would get this far on FileFront without the legal team clearing it first. Im pretty sure we are allowed to host free modifications for this game. Thats how it works to my understanding...

If you guys do have permission to host KotOR and TSL mods I would love to see it, because i don't buy it, but thats not the point of the argument anyway(atleast on my end). I think the real issue that offends most KotOR modders is the fact that none of the authors that had mods hosted by Filefront knew that their mods were being hosted and the only reason why the other mods have not been requested to be taken down is that those modders still do not know their mods are up on your site. Personally, I like to know where my mods are being hosted so that I can easily keep them updated. Nothing would be more annoying to me than someone emailing me about a bug in my one of my mods to find out they were using an older version. It never occured to me that I would have to State in the readme that my files could only be hosted on certain sites. However I have only released a couple mods for TSL so they weren't up at PCGM to be taken. Even though none of my mods were uploaded to Filefront I was still offended that mods would be taken from PCGM and copyed so completely. What that said to me was that you guys were not willing to take the time to get the word out about your site and instead decided that it was a good idea to just take mods from a site that has a community of Loyal modders. Building a modding community takes time and what you guys did stated plainly that you were not willing to wait and build a thriveing community of KotOR modders, but instead decided to leech off a succesful community. I'm not saying that you can only host files from members of your site and forum. What I'm saying is that you should have waited until mods were submitted to your Site. I have only seen this type of mod hosting(where mods are taken from other sources) on a few sites and to be honest those sites had tiny communities. I have never Seen PCGM staff take mods hosted on other sites and submit them to a PCGM game section, why because they don't have to and would not do that! It is good that when mods were requested to be removed by the authors that they were and the screenshots taken from pcgm were also removed, but this additude that you guys can do what ever the hell you want with mods is ridiculous. I keep seeing it being said that FileFront has a huge member base. that may be true but that is not the case for your KotOR site. It understandable though considering that its new, but by doing what was done has left a big old black mark on your site. I wouldn't be surprised if it took a long time before mods beggan to be submitted. Personally I don't care anymore as long as you guys are not take mods and screenshots from PCGM. I don't have time or inclination to hold a grudge against the site.

Oh, it wouldn't be hotlinking directly to the file. It would be linking to the file's description.

Forget it, this thread is locked. The issue with your mods will be looked at and reviewed. Case Closed.

Im just saying right now that the KotoR community is the ONLY community, out of a history of 37 websites we have launched, that has this attitude towards the re-hosting of there files. This community simply wants to keep there eggs in one basket? Then fine, do that. You dont want to take the free help from the largest game modifications network on the internet? Fine, dont. You all have incorrect perceptions on the legality (Most of your community feel you dont need to add a note to prevent remirroring to your readme's (heh) and half of you thaught making skins and other minor modifications was outright illegal (hah)), and you all seam to have a REALLY overblown problem with providing fans of your game another location to download files for there game.

Since your "community" as you put it does not appreciate the help freely given to you, then it wont get that help. Every other mod community (36 of them) we are a part of distrobute there files freely arround meny mod sites, however you seam to have developed your own, ecnlosed way of dealing with things. if you would all stop tripping over yourselves you would see what you've just thrown away.
