Went out browsing for games to buy, and I came across KOTOR II. I had heard good things about the series, so I bought it. (Unforunately my computer isnt good enough to run it, but...) While I'm waiing to have my graphics card updated, I would like to know if you really need to have played the first game to understand what the hell is going on.

Nope. KOTOR and KOTOR II are two different game's, just the same game engine and physics. KOTOR II has some more feature's then KOTOR. That's the only difference I found.

Both have with there own story line's and time frames with in the Star War's Universe.

if you're browsing games, buy the first kotor instead. it's a better game with a better story line.

Not my forte, sorry ;) I hardly know how much KotOR 2 itself costs.

:agreed By the way, I ran the first KOTOR on a GeForce 4 Ti4200 with no problems, though I've since moved on to a 6800 so I don't know how KOTOR 2 would have done. I expect a GeForce 4 (or similar) would retail for £50 at the moment, probably even less. I haven't looked though. You should be able to get something perfectly good for £100 though.

sounds good, thanks smilie.gif probably not going to stretch my... "limited funds" to £100, but I should be able to find something between Geforce 4 and the latest.

KotOR I has a much better storyline, but KotOR II is more entertaining to play. Oh but I missed the point, yes, it is necessary, unless you accidentaly miss/skip the part at the sith academy where you find a certain holocron, this contains the necessary knowledge to completely spoil your KotOR I game.
