From what I know KOTORIII is gonna be some time before it hits the shelfs, So that being said: Why not make a total conversion for KOTORII with new feats, powers, skills, characters, planets, weapons, armor, items, stims, events, plots, cantinas, dancers, music & soundeffects, animations (if someone is willing to spend alot of time to figure it out) and all the other good stuff? Since LucasArts has not made a Star Wars game based on events of the New Republic and time after GCW (from what I know of) we could make a TC based on events after Galactic Civil War. What do you think?
....Well if you honestly wanted to rewrite pretty much the whole game.... I mean heck, if you got the best modders together, and they think they can do it, I'm not stopping you. I'll just be waiting for K3's release knowing that will probably come out first. ;) (No offense, it just seems to be a uber hard task, and I probably don't know how hard it will be cause I suck at modding)
arent they all ready doing that? i know i heard something about it.

That is the TSL Restoration project, if I understood you right.
But I think it would be cool to have some "extra content" if it comes to skills, powers, feats and character. But the idea of animations is just insane. Did you see how long it took for SithSpecter to complete some animations? As he said, you will have to make thousands of 'fragments', or however he called it - let alone a massive amount of animations.:p

Why not? Because modding for KOTOR1&2 is incredibly lacking in the tools for such a process. It would be simpler to create such a mod using another game engine entirely, perhaps one that came with a decent SDK.
It's just a idea.
And what do you mean animations have to be broken into "fragments"?
Is it for multi-animation processes/whatever-its-called. (For example you can be running but the engine will allow the characters head to be in a different XYZ rotation coordinates than the body allowing the head to look at objects on the side while running forward)

Fragments is some sort of synonyme for pieces, let's say. No, not only multi-animation, but also single ones. What I mean with animations is actually the animations of certain moves and armor/cape.
But still, it's my opinion, and I don't like the idea of getting more animations. Well, it's useful, most obviously, but I think that TSL already has more than enough animations.
@Nemmerle: I'm not really sure if it's legal to use another engine, as I'm not an expert if it comes to that. And why spend time to create such a mod, if it's possible? I'm pretty sure it'll have a lot of bugs and needs updates etc.

It's already illegal regardless of what engine you're using.

Only if you modify the .exe itself.
I think several projects like this have started, had threads at Holowan, then the modders got too ambitious, got frustrated, and abandoned them before nearing 1% completion.

Uh, no...
Anything going on with Jedi or Starwars and that general universe, outside of works of parody which are largely granted legal exemption, has to be licensed by Lucas Arts or a sub licensor that has been granted the appropriate rights in order to be strictly legal. Works of fandom are not exempt from this. The intellectual property owner generally chooses not to exercise their rights in this regard but that's not to say that they don't exist.
We don't own the rights to the characters in the game or any of the assets related to it and as far as I'm aware we've been granted no real right to modify any of the game files or to make derivatives from them. These rights, among others, would almost certainly be required in order to make a mod of such magnitude legally.
The majority of mods out there today are illegal, or at best exist in a sort of legal grey space having only limited case law precedent, little of which favours the creators of such mods, to go on. Companies simply turn a blind eye because they know the shit storm it would kick up if they stamped on it. Mods are for the time being seen as adding value to their games and thus making them more attractive to the potential buyer. You'll notice how quickly projects that compete with a company's commercial product get killed off though.
