I didn't make it!
I'm working on a ship model which I plan on using in a project I was working on, however I don't have the slightest on how to compose the texture for this thing. I made the ship model myself (took me a couple of hours ) but despite of what I know of texturing, I can't seem to get it right. I've tried several UV mapping techniques so far but each of them makes it very difficult to paint the texture. Here is a render of the model:

If anybody knows of a solid technique for texturing this, please help out, and do include advice on how to compose the texture from raw materials.
And, for my own sake, please leave author feedback, so that I may continue this kind of work.
