You need to copy the files to the Override directory on your Hard Drive, not on the CD Drive.

The folder you want is normally located at: C:\Program Files\LucasArts\SWKotOR2

Just copy the mod files into the Override folder in there and your mod should work.

You could always just rip the CD/DVD. That was the first thing that came to my mind when you were talking about copying files from the media format to your computer.

Yes, if there isn't an override folder there just create one, name it Override and then copy the mod files into it

Which mod are you trying to install? Does the Readme file provided with the mod just say drop all the files into the Override folder?

Is the folder you're trying to copy right-protected?

Use Search to find "lucasarts" (one word) there sould be four results all pertaining to swkotor. open the bottem one, you should see more files one should be "override" if it's not there just make a simple folder & name it override. For quick access right click on it & send it to desktop, you can just open the override file from the desk top. if your key board has "CUT COPY & PASTE" buttons on the left side use them to transfer mod files into override. Every thing exept the readme & possible screen shots. cut copying & pasting with this method is a matter of seconds to install. for more advanced stuff the readme will tell you what to do.
