hey guys, i'm new to the forums, and i have a question about kotor2 problems i'm having...
i recently purchased the game a few days ago, i installed it, and everything was fine until the the cutscene on the first lvl as you play as the droid (prologue)...everything is shaky, and the graphics are super glitchy and dark. i also can't move as the droid...it just moves in circles like a crazy person. there's no color to any characters, they're just all black.
here's a link to show you what it looks like... http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u66/constantsarechanging/kotor.jpg
hopefully the link works.
now i'm not a computer wiz, so i'll put down the basics. i can't find the box so i'm not sure of the recommended specs.
AMD athlon dual core 4200+ 2.2 GHz, 2 GB of ram radeon X1900 GT 256 MB
again, i'm not sure of the recommeded specs so it may be a graphics card problem, i guess i can always google it...and i'm a noob when it comes to computer hardware so go easy on me :) ANY help is greatly appreciated.
I could also use some help with this issue, if there are any moderators that can assist, it would be awesome. I searched the web for answers, yet they don't seem to exist. Basically, as soon as I start the game, I notice the characters are black shaded, that's not the worst of it. I cannot move T3 at all! The only thing I can help with, is when I do the hardware scan from the configure screen, it says my video card doesn't meet the reccommended specs, even though its a 256mb card, I believe. Any suggestions would be nice, I tried adjusting the graphics, but it failed. SPECS amdx2 3800 2.0ghz 2gb of XMS memory ATI RADEON x850 XT 256MB
Same here, I am not only having problem with Kotor II, but I and Republic Commando as well!!! Those are three of my favorite games, if this has anything to do with the game not being able to read our drivers then I hope Lucas art will patch the game and fix this problem asap!!!
Oh, and I also notice none of us are using the same graphic card, I currently have Geforce 8800 GTS - which is one of the 8 series and they are known to be buggy with these games and might recieve a driver soon!!!
PS:!!! OH and one more thing, this could have something to do with the dual core processor, but I'm not sure.... !!!
OH MY GOD!
Alright boyz and galz! I found a solution!
This should be spammed all around the internet, oh god I'm a f*cking genius!
Now this is taken from another forum (Which had a similar problem but it was a diffrent game, Thief 3: Deadly Shadows) and it works with Kotor 2, and I expect it to work with Kotor 1 as well since it runs on the same engine!
All you have to do is install a Microsoft Hotfix for your service pack Computers that are running Windows XP Service Pack 2 and that are equipped with multiple processors that support processor power management features may experience decreased performance
If you want to know more then I got the info from these two forums
Hi, erm I wouldn't think this problem related to graphics cards, at least in my case I had it too. *had* being in the past I realized with certain mods it seems to do that sometimes, try removing them also, very weridly , whenever it sdid happen to me it was mostly on peragus/harbinger for some obscure reason , and was especially bad on one specific place ; the part of the minibng tunnels on peragus where atton tells you to purt on the eat shield. To get past that last bit I just set the game to lowest res and graphics, got past it, saved , athen pumped back up the graphics. Still, I also remember this happening without mods as well somehow :s When this happens to me it's sort of on-and-off ; sometimes suddenly fgoes black shaded, then a while afte goes back normal. Weird. i have all microsoft updates, and it hasn't solved it for me though... Dan
Ya i have the same black shading problem and for some apparent reason everything i have is great and beyond the normal requirments for the system but my graphics card(which is way better then what it needs)says it only hits minimum requirments,i dunno if its that or if something else is wrong plz help people!
I tried what helmofmight33386 said and it didn't do a thing. I am still having the problem. I would have to say it has something to do with the graphics card. Thanks anyway though
FINALLY A SOLUTION! And it ***DID*** work for me! Download the AMD Dual Core Optimization driver. From Amd.com IT will work!it worked for me(thank god!)
Dude if that driver works I will stand up and literally give u applause because it has been bugging me forever. Unfortunately, i have to sleep and can't test it right now. Thanks a bunch!
YESSSSSS IT WORKEDD, THANK YOU SOOO MUCH!! How did u figure it out?
