I don't think so, if they did they must have used them up during the heresy. Because I know that the Iron Warriors used virus bombs on a paradice world and that Horus used them to kill 12 billion people on a hive world.

12 billion? i thought it was 16 billion. anyways, virus bombing an entire planet would not only kill countless lives but also take the satisfaction out of killing all together. no blood would be spilt for the blood god and the only chaos gods that it would "benefit" would be nurgle and possibly slaanesh (the sheer pleasure of watching others suffer in agony).

I think killing 16 billion people with one click of a button or comical push of a plunger would be pretty damn satisfying. I think that any planet with any race of the imperium living on it getting whiped out would benefit chaos a great deal, any of the chaos gods.. even Farticus the gusty, lord of Flatula.

What was the whole point of Abbadons Planet Killer if it wasn't to kill planets with people on? Somewhere to keep his spare shoes?

the planet killer was to destry planets but only 1 or 2 to cause panic in the imperials, chaos much prefer invading a planet and making the locals eat their own guts/babies that way is always much more fun than pressing a button, the orks agree

Chaos don't seem to have virus bombs left, but they don't need them.. Last Black Crusade, Typhus reduced an entire planet to compost with some snazzy Nurgle sorcery.

It's not in Chaos' interest to compost/PlanetKill every world they come across, neither is it in the Imperium's interest to hit too many planets with Exterminatus... They both want some people left to dominate once their glorious victory is complete. Ground battles'll always be crucial in 40k.

but with billions of planets each with billions of lives on......its nice that every once in a while someone can have a go at destroying a whole planet with a remote control..then nip off for tea

Quite so. What power-crazed, homicidal Warmaster doesn't feel the need to let off some steam from time to time? It's a stressful job, y'know.
