has anyone read this book? its by ben counter from the black library range. its pretty good! its about a chapter formed from the Imperial Fists legion, and how they rebel against the corrupt imperium and only serve the Emperor. The commander of the 3rd company Sarpedon fights against the IG and the adeptus mechanicus (apologies for the spelling) after they stole an ancient artifact from them. Soon enough the Inquistion comes along and declares the Soul Drinkers excommunicate, just before Sarpedon slaughters the Inquisitor (brilliant kill ending!). Anyways, soon the Soul Drinkers start developing spider like qualities (the reason why its spider specific escapes me) the Chapter Master summons Sarpedon and tries to kill him (after all he was the reason why his chapter has become excommunicate). Sarpedon develops 4 spidery arms during this fight and ends up tearing the Chapter Master into pieces. This sparks a civil war within the chapter, which eventually the rebels prevail. They then go on to crusade against the "sworn enemy" ie Chaos. Its a good read, and my question to you my fellow hobbyists, is what is your favourite book from the 40k universe?

i never read Black Library books, i keep sticking to WD/rulebooks/Codex fluff

So i have no real favorite story, i miss the old Titan fights though where, durng the Heresy, titans of the Legio Ignatum (Fire Wasps) fought renegade Titans which began to mutate. The Heresy was a damn freaking tough period ;)

There was a mini-novel that came with an issue of WD called Black Crusade about the Eye of Terror campaign. There were only 1 or 2 chapters from a few novels, still awesome reading though. I think were Baptism of Fire, Storm of Iron, and Daemon World. I still want to go out and find the actual novels for these!

I read a few a long time ago, one was about Kharn the Betrayer and another was a Blood Angels thingy.

I've been meaning to read it, but i cant seem to find a copy. if you like ben counter, then definately check out "Grey Knights", it's about the Grey knights (of course), which in case you don't know are a group of incredibly elite, incredibly badass space marines who specialize in anit-daemon combat. it was a good one.

I have read The Bleeding Chalice and Crimson Tears, books 2 and 3 of the series, but I haven't found Soul Drinkers. And the Soul Drinkers develop mutations in general, only Sarpedon mutates into a spider-like being.

well one guy (his name escapes me) developed eight eyes but i think he got killed in the first book, the Soul Drinkers chapter got reduced to about 150 marines by the end of the book, after the civil war and Ve'Meth (he was a strange Nurgle daemon who was actually about 100 people crowded in a room)

Yeah, at this point in Warhammer's collective storyline the Souldrinkers are nearly extinct, with maybe a hundred, if that, left. personally, I don't think the Inquisition would have let them go for much longer before they tried to exterminate them, like they did with the Flame Falcons.
