So, 40,000 years into the future, there is an impending war throughout the Galaxy, with several different factions running riot wearing thick armour and such, and they go around trying to kill each other with blades? Ok, so I know all of these factions have guns at their disposal, but power swords and knifes? What possible purpose would these tools serve against a raging Space Marine, topped with Armour? I can understand them using these tools when up against Tyranids, and maybe Orks (some of them are armoured, but most aren't) but for them to go up against many other sides with Swords etc seems somewhat stupid to me.

Daemon Hammers and Power Weapons are powered. But I still don't get why SM's and Scouts get knifes. Orks are inhumanly strong so they can effective so they can use Choppas. Daemon Hammers also waste Daemons and Chaos instantly.

Imagine getting hit with a sword thats running with electricity that fries you like popcorn chicken.

Thats the purpose of power swords and chainaxes/swords, to rip appart the armour.

The power sword penetrate in the armour like a hot knife in the butter (how philosoficall i am hehehe)

Also try to imagine thousands of space marines without close combat weapons in front of thousands of chaos marines also without CC weapons...

thats boxing not war...

We still use combat weapons to this day, what happens when you out of ammunition? Or you in close quater combat? You cannot shoot them because you have risk or killing someone near by to you or they might rip the gun from your hand. So you pull out your knife and fight.

The bayonet has been around for over 300 years and is still in use today (A British royal marine won a VC in Iraq after leading a bayonet charge a few years ago). A sharp blade is a useful tool to fight with, simple as that.

Very yes. If Orks believe in it it works. Now then, as to regular knives being equiped on your average Space Marine to take down a Chaos Marine or some such, the knives are most likely created with the same material as the armour (Ceramite). Not only this but they are all sharpened to molecular levels, easily cutting through the armour, although not as easily as a powered weapon. Power weapons (as was stated earlier) can cut through armour like a knife through hot butter. Daemon weapons on the other hand merely screw the shit out of... daemons.

In the actual 40k game you could have model armed with a spoon and that would count as a close combat weapon...now that's annoying!

Not in a tourney you can't. And even then, the other player(s) can decide that model will not be in action if they want. Go, go, PowerSpoon!
