Im a person who has played the Dawn of War games a lot and has witnessed the table top game being played and am interested in the books on 40k. Particularly, I am interested in a good place to start reading about races such as the Tau, Necrons, and/or IG. If anyone has any suggestions on books/series that are a good place to start, Id be happy to hear about them.

Alright for one there are (to my knowing) no books about the 'crons or the Tau, but for IG the Gaunt's Ghosts books are quite good, along with 15 hours. But if you want something good than the Ultra Marines series along with Strom of Iron (which some say is the one of the best written 40K books ever) and Dead Sky Black Sun (the sequel to Storm of Iron and the Ultra Marine series) that's all that I can think of right now so that's a start for ye.

Well for the IG, i read the book "Death world" it was alright as far as wh40k novels go. There are alot of IG books, such as rebel winter and whatnot. Just cruise through the black library and see what you can find, since i can't name any books about necrons or tau off the top of my head.

I have to agree with flight of the Einstein and my suggestion is a combination of the first three books in the soul drinkers series it's called soul drinkers omnibus both are great reading IMO.
