THQ arming Warhammer 40K shooter? - GameSpot Rumor Control

Gamespot released an article about a rumored possible 3rd person action title. A link is included there to a YouTube video with gameplay footage and developer comment.

Hoax or not, one can easily appreciate the detail and thoroughness of the video. It follows a lone Space Marine fighting groups of Traitor Guardsmen and Chaos Marines. The ranged combat is as the "developer" says a means to an end to get close to your opponent. The intended method of play is through melee combat with your chainsword. It shows the many ways you can kill an opponent and a look at the combo system. Detailed as well is an "overkill" system which allows one to get even more in-grained in the combat with a face-to-face struggle with your enemy using cues to fight.

The video will show the rest, just thought I'd share the news.

to be honest, the fact that the marine rips trough multiple chaos marines at one time is just kinda stupid.

The animation was weird at the same time, but character as well as ship (the thunderhawk) wise.. Like Gears of war in warhammer.

Yes. I would think that two Chaos Marines would rip one apart. Just as two marines would probably rip one chaos marine apart. Roughly equal.

Not nearly grisly enough for a 40K game. And it looks a lot more like Too Human than Gears of War, atleast in Gears, you get limbs and torsos flying. I didn't see much of that in this video.

Thought i understand the game is still WIP, the game didn't "flow". I don't know if it was the person playing or the animations (or both) but the combat of the game didn't look appealing. There were to many pauses within combat and and the animation were kinda clunky.

My suspicion is that the violence will be amped up a bit, but not much. Severing limbs and the like doesn't happen in all but the bloodiest of games. Assuming this game will exist at some point and not a fake, I gather that the focus will be on the lore and the experience of WH40K. There was a comment that they wanted to stay true to form and those being introduced to 40k for the first time could see it for what it is. I'm certain that they'll go for an 'M' rating, but it will be a rather shallow 'M'. Anybody remember Nano Breaker on PS2? Yeah, I'm sure the violence will be nothing like that.

As for the gameplay itself, you can already tell that to say the bolter is nerfed is giving it too much credit. I mean really, it's just there to stun your opponent? While I agree that fighting multiples of Chaos Marines simultaneously is just a silly idea, what else can you do? Of course the game needs to be playable and give you a sense of what 40K is like, but we wouldn't want to make it too hard. I'm curious to see if missions against other races will be involved. It would be difficult to devise what kinds of missions a lone Marine could do, given the lore of the universe, but it would be interesting to see them try.

Compared to many chaos marines that are 10 thousand years old? Fuelled by strength of insanity, and who very often have gifts of chaos?

No not really. Also please don't double post. Use the edit function instead.

Agreed with KEndall, the combat didn't flow at all. It also seemed that the moment you were in combat with one, the rest just stood around doing nothing at all.

All in all, I'm not really sure making a shooter with an SM is such a good idea. Making one with a surviving Kasrkin behind enemy lines would have been a lot better.
