I need help. I was listening to music, sounds fine. after listening for a bit i went into Warcraft 3 to play a few games. the weird thing is though. the 3D sound is really weird. if something isn't RIGHT in the middle of the screen, it sounds far away. all the things they say when you click on them is quiet too:confused: Does anyone have any idea what could be stuffing up my 3D sound? it weird because non 3d sound(like the music) sounds fine:(

also, i have headphones, could it be that there stuffed?

Turn down/off your EFX settings. It's in your drivers some where.

Every one raves about EFX, but I can't play with it on. It all sounds like you are playing in a 500ft tall tin can.

I set the EFX to "living room" who knows what it is called on your card. Anything larger than that is unbearable.

How come its just happened like this though? 1 hour ago it was like this, 2 hours ago it was fine:confused: The only thing i did in that time was dust off NWN and have a quick play:uhm:

if it just started happening you could have 1. changed your EFX accidentally like capt. queeg said 2. screwed with a driver 3. messed up your hardware

try re-installing your card. Also, you shouldnt be using 3d sound if you dont have a 16 or 24 bit sound card

1. I dunno ehat EFX even is:confused: 2. didn't touch them 3. same as 2 Also im not sure what sound card i have(forgot -_-") but its new card with my P4 2.6, ati radeon 9800 pro ect ect so it wouldn't be a crappy card. Capt. Queeg: MS isn't on auto update as far as i know. Maybe it is my headphones. do you think new one's would fix this?

I guess it's possible.

EFX stands for Environmental Effects (I think). It simulates you being in a 3d environment by distorting the sound with echos. It is a kind of surround sound simulation and/or enhancement. So it adds makes things sound different depending on where they are at. Something in front of you will sound different than what is off center. That somewhat matches what you've described. That's why I centered in on it.

You have our best guesses!

Good luck!
