*The.Doctor;4939647@ Computernerd, those are some terrible looking benchmarks....

How do you mean?

goody10;4940012I would go with the 4870 as it is brand new. The 4890 is used and used by some one who sounds like they have already abused it. My 4870 (Saphire 512) runs slightly hot @ 67 at idle with auto fan but will not go above 75 at load. I did however take Mr.Pedantics advice a while ago and set the fan to 35% and I can hardly hear it while my temps dropped to 40 at idle and 55 at load. Which reminds me i think I forgot to rep for that :bows:

The only thing I like about used and abused hardware is the fact that you KNOW how far it can go and if it will be a good clocker or not. Thats the exact same reason I bought my e8400 used (despite it being $50 cheaper than retail).

Thats true but $155 is alot to pay out for something that you will have no come back on. What it really boils down to is how well do you know the guy and are you sure he would not be trying to pass on a dodgy card.

Well, considering he has good feedback selling stuff recently I'd say it would be safe to assume it wouldn't be a problem getting a bad card. Not to mention that most guys will go out of their way to help you with RMA in case you ever need to send something back should the card end up dying.

Im still not 100% sure but im thinking of going with the 4890 since the $25off coupon expired, and the best 4870 deal would be $150- $20mir. Things are looking better for the 4890 as time passes.

Or just a box with a weight in it ;)

Well, something like that would NEVER happen on the forum/team. Considering to buy/sell stuff you have to give your phone number/ home address/ isp or .edu email address (that they check to make sure matches the user) its safe to say that something like that wouldn't happen. (not to mention that everything except my drives, case, motherboard, and TRUE are bought from there.)

In my opinion the 4870 is an extremely loud card under load. It may just be my particular combination of hardware, but I don't remember even using a card that was louder under load.

It does perform very well though and isn't too expensive either.

It's definitely not the quietest card in the world, but the fan does have quite good throughput. As I said, at 35% I can't hear it over my CPU/case fans, and it never goes above 55 load. Overall, my system, from about 75cm away, is actually quieter than our dehumidifier running on quiet about 2m away.

They look like something that was just slapped together quick, and have pretty much no details at all.
