Ok thanks for the advice guys, I just bought some arctic silver 5, and will be repasting both my CPU and 4870, i'll let you guys know how everything goes after!

Mine idles at around 55 degrees and that seems to be what ATI has in mind for it because as the automatic fan control will reduce fan-speed when below this value and increase when above.
Wow that arctic silver works wonders! My 4870 idle temp went from 57-60C to 48-49C! I have yet to install the paste on the CPU because my fan is really huge (Zalman 9700) and can't fit a screw driver in there so i'll have to find a special small one. But I bet it would really lower my CPU temp well too. Rep for everyone who gave advice :)

That sounds much better! Only a few degrees hotter than mine that's using a better than stock cooler!

Don't you void the guarantee by removing the fan when applying new thermal paste?

Yea, but well worth it I think since it will lengthen the life span of your GPU. Plus its a great solution if your getting BSOD's related to temperature and you don't have to send it in to get it fixed.
Generally you dont really void the warranty if you reseat and repaste. According to their rules you are, but if you RMA it anyway they generally wont care.
Another Update! I installed the paste on my CPU and WOW! It used to idle at 51C now it idles at 36C! This arctic silver stuff is good.
... What the hell were you using as thermal paste before? Toothpaste?
