Ok, so I built my rig 2 days ago, and everything is fine til I open Catalyst and see that it's running at 8x when it should be running at 16x. My mobo has 2 PCI-e 2.0 X16 slots, they're both blue if that makes any difference. Is there anything I can do? Also, I don't see any option in the BIOS for setting the BUS speeds.

Are you running the card in the top slot?

Some boards that say they have 2x PCIe x16 slots are actually using a 16+8 setup instead of the full 16x16.

Actually it is in the lower slot, I'll try putting it in the top slot, I guess that does actually make sense for Crossfire, I've heard that when running two cards you get 8x-8x in Crossfire mode.

EDIT: Yep, that did it, Catalyst is showing PCI-e 2.0 X16 :)

Yeah I was just going to say what Doc did, but in a different way. A lot of MBs that have two 16x slots only give you 16x x 8x when running two cards. I do find it misleading however that some also require you to use the first slot to get 16x if running only one. So how prey tell do you ever actually get 16x out of that so called 16x 2nd slot. :uhm:

You don't. Those second slots, while being described as x16, are only capable of running at 8x max on those boards. Most of the better CF/SLI boards are running all the slots at full x16 now though. Yeah i agree its pretty misleading, you have to read the fine print on most of them to see what your really getting.

Yeah it should be considered fraudulent to advertise them as 2x 16x when you can't ever get 16x out of the 2nd slot, utterly ridiculous.

Yeah, we should sue them. It would probably work too, unless they can actually provide a legit disclaimer:

I noticed that on some forums, they say that there's like no difference between 8x and 16x, however when playing CoD4 with 8x on the "Blackout" level it started out with it sunk down to 30 fps when looking down the site (with DOF on), but when I switched slots it never went below 60 fps :)

That would be interesting if that was Yellowboy's problem as well, though I forgot which motherboard he's got.

Did he even sell it? I thought he was left complaining about the low price that he SHOULD be selling it for.
