I have been surfing the internet lookin at reviews and coparisions for 5.1 surrond sound headsets and everyone is "the best". Well not really but i was wondering what you all use (if u do). I have an onboard 5.1 soundcard (dont know how good it is i just use 2 speakers and a sub) How would the USB style sound compared to plugging into a sound card? I am lookin for big beefy ear cup things that go entirely over your ear. Here are a couple i was looking at: http://www.medusa-canada.com/medusa-51-pc-dvd-c-191_193_199.html The home edition doesn't come with the USB connection but has more options for hooking up to a home stereo or other stuff. The pro gamer one on the other hand has both 5.1 input jacks and a USB connections to give some added flexibility. I have also checked out the Sennheiser 160, 150, 155. Thank you for any input you may be able to give!!

there is no replaceing "true" 5.1 than 6speaker set up so if you want 5.1 dont go out of the way to find a head set that "supports" 5.1 since u will never get that feeling.

Playing games with speakers blasting is not an option for everyone, at all times. gaming with a headset cannot, cannot be beat. Especially FPS games.

Why do you want USB? I use Seinheisers and i absolutly LOVE them. I will get the model when I get home.

I agree. Even with my little wrap around the neck headphones games just seem to feel... closer or more immersive. Ya know?? I would like the option of USB just in case my onboard Sound isn't all that great. I have also read that the USB chip kinda simulates 5.1 and isnt true surround. I guess component cables (think thats what they are called) would be good.

You looking for ones with a boom mic or without? I also bought a USB Logitech set with a boom mic that sounds good. I'll get the model when I get home...

Comparing head sets is difficult as people like different things in their audio. One of my favorite PC shops did a comparison, it doesn't include a lot (it's a small shop, relatively speaking) so it's not particularly useful but it gives you an idea. http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/acatalog/Article_Headsets.html

If you're worried about onboard sound, get a cheap Audigy. Some of the older ones such as the Audigy 2 are pretty cheap nowadays.

Normally, surround sound headsets are for PC use, and that means most of them will have 3 seperate 3.5mm TRS connectors (jack plugs) for the 3 channels - front, rear and center/subwoofer. Not quite sure how a headset can have a center, but whatever.

Boom mike would be nice. Detachable would be extra nice. I checked out that review you suggested BS|Archaon, they gave high praise to the medusa gamer set. More careful reading of the explanation of the Pro gamer headset made me realize that the USB connector was only a power source not a 5.1 audio connection. I will probly go with the progamer headset...... But im interested in what your model is beef flaps. Seinnhieser is a very good brand.
