Well, at least the prices are dropping even further on nvidia cards. I saw another Galaxy 470 going for 219 after mir. Not too bad! I might have to go sli!

You have to remember though, these are the midrange cards of the 6000 series now. ATI changed this naming scheme this time: 6800 = midrange. 6900 = high end. From the few reviews i've read it looks like the 6870 fits right in between the 5850 and 5870 overall, and about equal to a GTX 470, which is actually not bad for its price and where it should be really. These are already clocked so high though i wonder how much OCing headroom is left, Guru3D only got around 50Mhz on the core and that did next to nothing for performance.

That said though, these don't make me regret jumping on a 470 one bit. =p

Apparently there's to be a 6990 this time around. At the moment, I'm pretty much only interested in each team's best single GPU card, so I'm waiting for the 500 series. I'm probably going to skip this generation though. Power consumption doesn't mean a whole hell of a lot to me, and heat won't be a problem under water. =p.

It does. It'll be interesting to see the pricing of the higher end stuff. Here's a review.

Yeah, historically, AMD cards aren't great with overclocking. You can get a 700MHz card to 1GHz, but it doesn't do a whole lot, even in benchmarks, let alone actual games. That's one of the reasons I love the 400 series; you get a pretty damn linear increase in performance.

What?! Maybe in some games that dont take notice in gpu-frequency, but tell that to the 4k bump in vantage I got from gpu-overclocking.

Oh, you must have that new version of Vantage. The one that's not a benchmark. =p

I had suspicions that the rumors I'd read about the 6870 were too good to be true. Turns out it's just a clever changing of model name schemes.

I'm getting tempted to jump on a 470 or two. The prices I've seen them at are very low. I don't see how they can justify selling the 480s for as much as they are though considering the current 470 pricing. They're not that much faster than the 470s to warrant paying over 70% higher price.
