look here http://www.rage3d.com/reviews/video/nvidia7800gtx/index.php?p=6 this review shows the 7800 beating the X850 by 77.5% in BF2 at maxed resolution... this is the best in depth review of the new card that Ive seen so far.

Wow... there was not a single benchmark that the X850XT PE won in. Impressive. I think I see now why the 7800GT has fewer pixel pipelines instead of simply a reduced clock speed.... an overclock of the 7800GTX by 92MHz core and 140MHz memory barely improved the performance at all.

Maybe this will quiet some of the ATI fanboys.

Its a good deal if you want to play everything at the max resolution possible, but if you play everything at 1024x768 then its not really worth the money yet. me, i'm still waiting to see what R520 brings to the table.

On some of the other forums I am on people keep inisting the X850Pe is almost as good as 7800.

I have the X850XT Platinum Edition PCI-Express, and spent almost $140 less than the 7800GTX is now...I play games maxed out at 1280x1024 no problem. There will always be something bigger, faster, better, more reliable, etc, but you can't keep upgrading. I'll probably find in the future that the X850 wasn't the best choice, but I really don't care. I spent in the high 400's on my card and it's worth it to me.

Indeed. All high end cards of 04 can still run all games maxed out highest settings smooth as a babies butt. 06 games those cards still wil play them maxed out high smooth.

I only spent $388 on my 6800GT a few months ago (obviously, since they can be had for $300 now), and to date I havent found anything that it cant handle. At the stock speeds of 350/1000 it can handle everything I've thrown at it so far perfectly and with the cooling I have (an NV5 silencer), I can safely take it up to 435/1200 and it stayes below the temps at stock speeds with the stock cooler. At these speeds it is perfectly stable and even slightly outperforms the X850XT PE (in 3dmark05), which like amore said can handle pretty much everything for the next few years. I'm perfectly content with my 6800GT for quite awhile.
