please, im looking for a diffinative answer here, not the "forget the 8600, buy a an 8800" ive been told so many times.

lots of customer reviews on newegg say that a pair of 8600GTSs (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130084) kick butt as far as graphics go, but some say they don't. i really want to play crysis, cuz it looks great. it also has very low system min specs. and even Crytek's recommended specs have a 7 seires GPU in them. so would a pair of 8600GTSs run crysis (and other games) well?

Heck, for around $200, maybe evenless street prices, you'll soon be able to get an 8800GT with the new G92 GPU that will kick it's butt. So yeah, soon the one you showed will be old news. Then again, the prices on the G80 stuff may drop a fair bit when it debuts.

I say no. Here's some benchmarks i found: BFG Tech GeForce 8600GTS OC - SLI Performance Analysis :: TweakTown The 8800GTS comes out on top of the 8600 SLI cards in almost every test. Plus with a 8800, you will have a single card (less heat, lower power use), and you would always have the option to SLI two 8800's then. Then 8800GT would be a good option too, any news on when its supposed to be out?

You can buy a 8800GTS 320MB for $260 or a 8800GTS 640MB for $350. You would only be paying $20 more for a 8800GTS 640MB over buying two 8600's, or could get the 320MB for alot less. I know where my money would be. Edit: took out part, thought you were talking to me at first in your last post. :)

i think the 8800gt comes out in november, along with crysis.

and im not concerned with whether the 8800 is better than the 8600, im concerned with how well a pair of them perform. all i care about is how well the cards perform. period. not how they stack up against cards that are considerably more expensive. i read that article, and it descirbes exactly what im thinking of, buy one now, and a second one later when i have more money.

Two 8600GTS are going to cost you $400. Just one 8800GTS will cost you $280. Spending $400 on two 8600GTS to get near performance of one 8800GTS is plain stupidity! And here are the official requirements for Crysis straight from the website: [quote=http://www.ea.com/crysis/news.jsp] Recommended System Requirements OS - Windows XP / Vista Processor - Intel Core 2 DUO @ 2.2GHz or AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+ Memory - 2.0 GB RAM GPU - NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS/640 or similar

Notice how the reccomended GPU is a 8800GTS and not a 8600GTS?

are you sure thats not the requirements for the demo, cuz its requirements are higher. w/e, all i wanted to know is if a pair of 8600GTSs would run crysis well, but since people wont listen to what im fricking saying ill jus shut up and ask someone else.

You keep getting the same advice because it's good fucking advice; if you won't listen then it's your problem, not us being pricks by not answering your question.

As Apollo said, you can get a 8800GTS for less money than a pair of 8600GTS cards and it will perform significantly better. Wait a little, which by the sound of it you will be anyway, and like Omen said the 8800GT will arrive which (from what I've seen) should be cheaper and faster than the 8800GTS.

The answer is yes, a pair of 8600GTS cards in SLI should play Crysis well. But why would you go down that route when the 8800 series is cheaper and faster? It's your money and everything, but why? If you're thinking of buying one card now and one card when Crysis comes out, I'm sorry to say that the prices of 8600s won't fall much between then and now; therefore buying an 8800 will still be the better and cheaper option.
