Sp, would a 9800gtx for 88$ be considered a deal? I've been out of the video card market for a year or so but I saw this deal on Woot under the side deals and I'm wondering just how good a deal that would be.

As a former Mitten resident myself, I can say without a doubt, absotively posilutely! Seriously though, the cheapest I can find a 9800GTX elsewhere is $124.99. Buy two if you can! On a seperate note. it's good to see you outside The Pub AB!

Its a decent deal. I got my GTX for $130 a couple months ago.

If you can, i would recommend waiting for the new ATI cards coming out in April. The new midrange 4750 will be almost as fast as a 4850 going by the Guru3D preview, and should be hitting at $100. Judging by the 4750, the 4770 should be better than a 4850 and it said to be around $120.

It's a good price for certain.

If you already have a high end 8 series though (8800GTS/8800GT, etc), it's essentially the same card. While definitely good cards, the 9 series was a disappointment in comparison to the previous generation.

That is definitely a fantastic deal. I might consider just buying that and selling off my old 8800GT for $50 to a friend. Thanks for the heads up for sure!

Pretty good deal. You can sell 8800GT's for $85 used so I would consider this pretty good.

Groovy, so if I sell mine and get this 9800GT, then I pretty much break even! =p

Wait a min. This deal was on woot? Man thats going to last a whole 5 mins.

edit: just saw that deal. its for an 8800gt 256mb. The cheapest 9800gtx they have on anything related to a woot deal is $109 from some bogus looking e-tailer.

Why?

The 9800 isn't much better. All a 9800GTX is, is basically a overclocked 8800GTS 512MB. You wouldn't notice much of a improvement going from a 8800 to a 9800. That would just be a waste of time.

Zamamee don't upgrade to a 9800 from an 8800, I made that mistake and it didn't give me a big improvement on anything, that's why I'm buying a gtx 260. That is if you don't mind spending $300 for it :P but I guess if u get one for $80 or less then do it. Or if u have an SLI board than just buy another 8800 and it will beat the performance of the 9800.
