9800GX2-spec.jpg4004641_845867.jpg Based on the specs and pictures, this monster appears to be 2 (slightly underclocked core, slightly overclocked memory) 8800GTS G92's bridged together (via an internal NP-200 SLI chip). There is conflicting info across the web as to pricing - some say it will debut at 450 USD others say 600 USD. If Nvidia has fixed the reported design issues, this will surely be a 3870X2 killer. Not to mention it brings Quad-SLI within it's reaches - now if only Nvidia could produce an adequate M/B chipset...

It's ugly, too. Looks like some kind of futuristic car part.

They really should've called this the 8800GX2 or 8850GX2, or something along those lines. [quote=Ihaterednecks;4253317]It's ugly, too. Looks like some kind of futuristic car part.

Yeah, but you Nvidia - functionality first. I would say they would leave it to the partners to beautify it up after a few months, but that rarely happens with Nvidia partners as of late. That's pretty much an ATI exclusive anymore... Now that ATI (sort of) has their drivers straitened out for the 3800 series, I would like to see this beast go head to head with the soon to be released GDDR4/updated bridge chip version of the 3870X2. It would likely be a close one.

IMO there are too many things that don't make sense on dual GPU cards. 1) Too much heat, esp with the cooler this one uses. At least on the 3870 X2 they vented the hot air out the back of the case. 2) You only effectively get half the VRAM it uses, not 1 GB. 3) There are more driver issues with them. Nvidia does a lot of hair brain things IMO. They're not only going out on a limb obsessing over and protecting SLI, they're dragging their feet on the GPUs they SHOULD be putting on the market. Even without much competition from ATI were they to release a true 1 billion transistor 9800GTX instead of this watered down crap they are now turning it into it would sell in mass quantities just for games like Crysis. Heck even the games that use Unreal Engine 3 don't run very well on high res unless you have pretty good spec.

Imagine overclocking that card.
