The 9800PRO is old, slow, and overheats incredibly easily. Not a good choice.
Go for the 6600GT. It leaves the 9800 in dust in benchmarks, and is about the same price as well.
He said hes getting the 6600 not the GT... but you SHOULD get the GT its only about £10 more and more futureproof and better
My point exactly. ;)
Most 6600GT packages also come with a bunch of free gear too. (I know the XFX one does...)

The XFX didnt work on my PC and now im stuck with a Asus 5900 128mb. Be sure it works with youre mobo
grab the 6600
Concerning my own experiences, i can't recommend the Radeon 9800pro. I'd definitely buy the 6600GT instead of the 6600! So i guess your friend has a mainboard using AGP graphic cards. I don't know if it makes much sense to pay too much money for a AGP card, because they are dying out soon anyway, but a very good choice for AGP cards is the ATI X800GT 256mb. But the price is about 170,00€.
Even though I am a ati fan, I would go with a 6600 and if you can 6600gt so you have up to date tech. :)
9800 overheats bad and will go out in a year, most of them do. Then its very old, very old. Get the 6600 since its only 1 year old now, doesn't burn up, and a tad faster. But if you can save up for a 6800GT. Be a lot better to get since the new games wont run that well on a 6600...
