So, I was going to start a personal blog. No particular reason or anything, I just have been looking for a way to do more writing, to improve myself, and this seems like a halfway decent way of doing it. I was just going to keep a record of major things, and also commentary on things like the photographs I take. What would be the best way to go about doing this? I don't particularly care whether other people read it or not, that not really what I'm going for, I just want a journal of sorts, and I figured I'd put it online so I can direct friends and family to it and that sort of thing.

Any ideas? Preferably free ones.

I would recommend Myspace, or Facebook blogs.

Both are free, and get the job done. Plus you can set the blogs to be public, or for friends only, or even private.

There are many other blogging options out there, but I'm not familiar with them, and others may not be either.

Most people have heard of Myspace, and many people are at least familiar with it. So it is a place to start. Plus many of your friends may have an account, so you can point them there.

Then when you get ready to do so, you can publish a blog for the entire internet, if you so choose.

Just don't publish a "personal" blog, as a public one. While it may not bother you now, it could come back to haunt you later. Especially as more employer's are checking their employee's blogs. They may stumble on something they don't like.

I and everyone I know uses Facebook, so I was looking to start there. I thought there was a Facebook blog but I can't seem to find it. It seems like the page for it is down or or something.

Edit: Oh, and by personal blog I just mean I'll just be commenting on random things. Mostly pictures I take and that sort of thing. I wouldn't post anything incriminating. I'm just clarifying that it's not like a political or news blog.

Actually, I may have to do a retraction. I am not familiar with the Facebook Blogs. So i'm not sure which ones fit my description. I use a Myspace Blog myself.

The facebook blog appears to be Here. The Facebook Blog | Facebook

I found an application called LiveBlog, which is a really low end tool, but I think for what I'm doing it might be fine. It's really just a more powerful version of the note tool, but I like that it is integrated into Facebook so I might stick with it. Any other suggestions are welcome. I was looking at livejournal and blogger.com, but I don't really know what would be the best and easiest tools to use.

LiveJournal.com - Start a Free Blog / Journal Today WordPress.com ยป Get a Free Blog Here http://www.blogger.com/ Xanga.com - The Blogging Community

Those are really the biggest sites dedicated to just blogs and such. Myspace has blogging, and Facebook essentially has blogging, but it's called "Notes" (you can make them private or public, like most sites.). It's all just personal preference though, I used to use xanga, then myspace when it was "in".
