Hi there iam thinking of upgrading my graphics card to this..... http://www.sparkle.com.tw/html/product/nvidia/sp8835xt_dt.htm now it says the card can run at AGP 8X / 4X / 2X will this work on my mobo which only runs at AGP 4X and if so would the card still function at its full potential here is my mobo type Gigabyte GA-8GE800 (intel 845GE chipset). Any help would be greatly appreciated :bows: .
When a video card displays that it mean it is made for a max of 8x speed of a AGP slot, now since you have a 4x, the card is backwards compatible, as it will work on you MoBo but only as 4x, not its full potential of 8x.
I hope i made my self clear, i can confuse even myself in my explenations lol
Even though the card wont work at its full potential will it still be faster than my (dont laugh) radeon 8500 and thx for the help.
No worries I was new to this at one point too. I did a little research to show you the diffrence Radeon 8500/ GFX5900 XT
Memory 64DDR/128DDR Memory clock speed 550mhz/680mhz clock speed 275mhz/390mhz
You will over all be getting a better boost for your video preformance, but you might want to suggest in getting a upgrade in a motherboard that supports 8x AGP cards they only run about 60 bucks or so.
Also take note, that I read that Doom 3 is supposidly made to coincide with Nvidia cards, as in you will have less confilcts with it. I have a Nvidia 5600/256 DDR and i have had no problem what so ever. hope this helps :)
Cheers mate thanks for the help.
anytime buddy, gl and hope everything works out for ya ;)
Yes, try upgrading the board, With using 4x on an 8x card, you're loosing about half of the performance.
Switching a card from 4X AGP to 8x AGP offers in itself a very small, if any, performance boost. The performance bottleneck is not in the AGP bus.
I have a 8x card. How do I know if my mobo is running it at 4x or 8x?

By what you can select in BIOS.
