I've recently (yesterday) come into possession of an IBM eServer x345, it's a 2U full-depth server, and this thing is HEAVY. I'm looking for suggestions as to what I might do with it other than buy a server rack, as I'm pretty sure I don't have room for a server rack, not to mention cost, and then the additional cost of buying rails for it.

I know there are companies that make single-server wall-mount units, but those are still 100-200$ for cheap ones and I'm not sure if those would need rails or not. One idea that was suggested by my professor was to just get a sheet of plywood and some 2x4s and make something that way. I know the ears alone won't support a server horizontally, but would they have the strength to hold a server vertically from them? If so I was thinking I might be able to basically just rest the ears on blocks with another piece of wood to keep it from slipping off.

Feedback on that idea, any other suggestions?

Also does anybody happen to know if a server with an Integrated Server Management Processor can be managed through the RS-485 or Ethernet ports without an add-on card or if the card is still required?
