Wow O_O. They want to not only make more cores, but add different cores built into the processor like GPU and such O_O. Quite amazing. And it seems AMD new stuff thats post to go head to head with Intel in speed wont come out until mid 2007, and 2008 with processors with DDR3 support O_O!

I smell burning processors.

And (although it doesn't affect because our modern systems are Intel anyway) I'm a bit miffed that (according to that) they're already planning to move away from AM2. I thought that the entire point of AM2 was that it was AMD's socket type for the future. I know it's 2008, but still....

Yeah, I read about Fusion on Wikipedia yesterday. It seems very logical, putting a GPU in with a CPU, since you only need one huge heatsink and the transfer times between cores will be tiny compared to the current setup. Faster memory access, one power cable... et cetera.

Looking forward to it.

Wow, very interesting. I knew AMD was going to put the GPU on the same die with the CPU, but i did not think it was going to be that eleberate. I migured 1 GPU and 2-4 CPU. atelast at first.

They're going for asymmetrical cores, cores better assigned to the tasks they are to perform all mix and matched onto the same chip. Intel plans to just stack symmetrical cores onto each other. AMD simply cannot turn out the amount of chips Intel can, so this option will allow them to increase performance without increasing the ammount of cores on each chip.

I'd think AMD's option might be better for gamers, use Hypertransport for meshing the cores, ATI's GPU's for graphic acceleration. Maybe math/ppu co-processors for number crunching and physics calculations.

Sick. Seems like AM2 will be short lived tho, which means I didn't necessarely made an error by buying a S939 mobo.
