Hi ppl im new to the forum and wanted to ask you some questions. Well I just built a system and wanted to know just how well it is performing and if any of the things I configured might be giving me trouble. Configuration: -AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ (windsor) -Kingston memory DDR 533 1gb (2 slots og 512) -Added another 2 sticks of ram that a friend gave me, they are Kingston and are DDR2 533 also, I wonder if this can give me performance issues. -Western Digital 160GB Sata hard drive -Maxtor 40GB IDE slave -MSI K9N Neo Motherboard -PNY Geforce 7300GS 256DDR2 (dxdiag says 512MB don't really know why look like it takes some ram of the the system) I think that is about it now....I suppose my regular games would run 100% with high graphics on this system how true is that? And does anyone of you notice any probable conflicts between my hardware? Does the old ram modules can do any harm? Some tests: GTA san andreas: 1024x768 Full Graphics=max fps on limiter 25 1280x1204 Full Graphics= around 20-23 sometimes goes up to 25 or lower than 20 in specific conditions. Half Life 2 Episode One: 1204x768 Full Graphics -Antialias 4x= 30 avg 1204x768 Full Graphics +Antialias 4x= 25 avg plus some little freezes less than a second short on loas circumstances. I would really appreciate if anyone can give me some guidance, Thank you very much!

Whats slowing your system down is that crappy 7300GS. The 7300GS is a pretty terrible performing card for any recent of graphics heavy games. You would be much better off upgrading that to at least a 7600GT.

Like Apollo said, whats doing the most damage is that 7300GS. And no..A X1300 would probably be worse if anything.

Well i currently have 1.5 gb ram split on (2) 512 sticks and (2) 256 sticks. The video card takes some ram away though :/.

Not enough to make it worth it. If you want decent performance, your going to want at least a Geforce 7600, or something like a Radeon X1650, preferably faster. If you want to play new games with decent settings, your going to need something faster than a 7300.

How much would you be willing to spend to upgrade your graphics card?

Oh, I just saw the 512 part :p . I would reccomend checking out this benchmark before making your next Videocard purchase as well. VGA Charts 2007 | Tom's Hardware

Hey thank you very much guys I appreciate all the info. I just assembled the PC yesterday huge leap from my old 1.8+ XP with Geforce2 and I just want it to perform as it should! Well I hope the difference in cost from 7300 to 7600 is not abysmal since I already had to invest a few bucks on this new machine.

BTW what do you think of the motherboard? MSI K9N Neo, it has an Nvidia Nforce550 chipset, certainly not top of the line but is it well? Can it be causing me performance troubles?
