I have seen some avatars on this and other forums. They are game avatars...You might have seen them, the ones like the doom guy's face looking back and forth, or the starcraft ghost. I was wondering "Where do people get those?" :uhm:

You get a couple of screenshots and animate them.

Guess it depends on the game ^^ For some you may extract animated GIFs almost directly from the game's data, for others you'll have to get a 3D editor and other stuff or to go with the screenshot method like said above...

Is there somehow to convert MPEGs or WMVs to GIFs? If I could get a good program for taking video right off the screen like hypercam...without the thing on the corner of the video saying "UNREGISTERED VERSION"

I make my own Gifs with the free version of Serif Drawplus. The only reason I don't use them a lot for forum avatars is it's hard to get the file size down to the limit size without severely degrading image quality. Most forum avatar size limits are fairly small. The one I'm using now is a simple Gif though. When you only have 2 or 3 images in it and the limit size is generous it's not too hard.

VirtualDub can do.

You don't really convert to GIF, you construct a GIF from a set of still images, such as jpeg, then export the finished job. VirtualDub will not make GIFs, you can use it for part of the process (mainly image capture), but it will not actually make a GIF by itself. The main thing it lacks is being able to export in GIF format, which it cannot do. I recommend Serif Drawplus for making GIFs, esp those new to it, it's very easy.

Dang, you're right, guess it's been a while since I checked for a new build version. Mine couldn't do that.
