Ok, here's the deal: I've got some problems with my microphone on my headset. Once I've plugged both the headset and the microphone into the computer, I get no reading what so ever, nothing indicates that anything have been plugged in. The headphones work well, but the microphone is not so successfull. As a member on Steam, I've gone into the Settings, tried to change the unit, but the computer can only find one microphone, one that I don't even know existed, called Realtek AC97 Audio. Any idea what that microphone might be? Any idea how I can get my headset mic to work? Btw, I'm using an XP

Do you have integrated HD audio?

Realtek AC97 Audio is an onboard audio chipset integrated into your motherboard. If that is the audio device you use (eg: have no sound card), then make sure the driver for it is updated.

Also ensure that you have the plug for the mic connected to the proper jack on your MB. You should also be able to go into the Realtek Audio Control Panel and do a test on the mic to check that it's working. Sometimes it can take a few tests to get it working.

Lastly, make sure the mic volume in your Windows Sounds and Audio Devices panel is turned up and not muted.
