(im double posting this in both here and the game's forum trying to get more people to see it and because im not too sure if its a game or tech issue) ok, im going to say it, but please read the entire thing before you just dismiss this post please
ok, im trying to run tsl on vista home premium (yea yea i know) and ive read litterally i think every forum and faq on the internet discussing this topic ok so far here are my issues:
1. i have Kotor (the first one) and it runs completely fine, no glitches no nothing 2. when i first tried playing it would crash on me 3. tried running the update to no effect, also tried compatibility mode 4. read online that if i disabled sound it would let me play, this got me into the main menu but the game would still crash when i tried starting a new game 5. i also read that if i replaced the mss32.dll file in kotor2 with the one from kotor1 that it would work, this allowed me to get in the main menu with sound, but would still crash when trying to start a game 6. i read that i had to uninstal the game, reinstal it after giving the setup.exe file compatibility for xp and administrator rights, then change the mss32.dll after it installed like that, and this is the furthest ive gotten, i can start a new game, if i watch the auto i can actually see my character, run around and do stuff no problem, but if i try to skip an auto, load a save game, or get to a loading screen it crashes when the loading bar is almost full 7. i saw someone post that two microsoft updates might help, i think they were meant to help with games, so i downloaded those and they didnt help at all 8. ive made sure all my drivers are up to date 9. i downloaded all new windows updates and installed them
now everything ive read says everything ive done should allow me to play the game just fine, even though kotor2 is still technically "uncompatable" with vista, and other people are claiming that they are able to play it just fine
my system specs on the comp im trying to run it on are:
toshiba laptop 200gb hard drive 2gb ddr2 ram 256mb graphics card Realtek High definition audio
any help would be great __________________

I'm thinking it may be your graphics card as laptops typically come with a crap card unless you specifically bought a gaming laptop. Can you be more specific on what your video card is?
It could also just be that getting it to run on Vista is tougher than you might think.
this is what everest says about it Field Value Video Adapter Properties Device Description Mobile Intel(R) 945GM/GU Express Chipset Family Adapter String Mobile Intel(R) 945GM/GU Express Chipset Family BIOS String Intel Video BIOS Chip Type Intel(R) GMA 950 DAC Type Internal Installed Drivers igdumd32 (220.127.116.114) Memory Size 224 MB Video Adapter Manufacturer Company Name Intel Corporation Product Information http://www.intel.com/products/browse/chipsets.htm Driver Download Intel(R) Graphics Support - Home Page
That video card is probably your problem, aside from the obvious one, wich is the game already not even being compatible with your operating system.
IT IS COMPATIBLE WITH THE OPERATING SYSTEM!!! YAY!!! *does happy dance* lol sorry, i tried those tricks i found out last night with my desktop and it runs without a problem, so it is something with my laptop graphics card, dont know what but hey it narrows it down
You could upgrade it with 7600GO or 8600MGT

Not on a laptop he isn't.
The simple fact is, if you don't have an Nvidia, or ATI video card, you aren't going to be able to play many games on your computer. Those crappy intel cards are just the cost effective way of getting your icons to show up.
i dont know, i can play alot of games with that card such as guild wars, kotor, black and white 2, enemy territory, age of empires 3, and several others i dont think its my card entirely as much as the combination of this one game, the card and vista, i think if any one piece of the puzzle was different it would work, but all three together doesnt want to let the game work
Try a game like Oblivion, or FEAR. You won't even be able to run it with an intel card.
