A Apple store recently opened up in Manchester. Click here for the opening store photos Apple are getting bigger and bigger. :) It wouldn't suprise me if in 5 years time Apple were to top Microsoft and become alot mre popular in the UK, so that you don't have to order Apple hardware/software online since they don't do much Apple products in England.

Trust me, Apple will never top Microsoft. If Microsoft go down the pit, then it will be because of Google. Google have ties with Creative, who are rivals with Apple, which means Google will not spare Apple.

Anyway, open-source will topple Microsoft if they continue making Vista a privacy whore.

Apple are far too expensive in my opinion. A PowerMac G5 costs upward of £1500, whereas a PC equivalent can be had for around two-thirds of the price. People have been predicting that Apple would curl up and die for years now, if it weren't for the iPod I doubt they would still be in business today.

I think he was exaggerating a little. ;)

As I said, Mac hardware in general is quite expensive. Wouldn't surprise me at all if there was a G5 or PowerBook out there worth £2k and upwards.

Yes, I agree with you there Apple are quite expensive, but I imagine if you have a look on eBay or go on a site that does some nice refurbs like Cancom you'll be able to get them alot cheaper but they usally don't come with the Apple hardware like the keyboard and mouse, origonally I was going to get a cheap refurb but it came with the microsoft keyboard and mouse which I didn't like so I decided to spend more money to get a nicer looking computer. :)

Apple is HIGH priced. But their Powerbooks are worth it. There fast, beautiful, and very powerful. Their PowerMacs on the other hand are nice but they really need to give it more ram and a better stock video card for the price.

Only way Apple can take down M$ is if they start lowing the prices for the Mac's DOWN a lot.

But as raven said, OSS will take down M$ sooner or later.

I just had a look around on apple.com and there selling the Powermac G5 starting from $1999 !! now thats very expensive. I agree with Agentlaidlaw if they want to top Microsoft they are going to have to lower their prices like microsoft my brother picked up a XP Dell machine the other day for only £50 !

Heres some info taken from here http://www.apple.com/powermac/ about the Powermac incase you don't know it. :)

The Power Mac G5 Dual and Power Mac G5 Quad introduce dual-core PowerPC processors, a modern PCI Express architecture, and wicked-fast workstation graphics. Power one up today and blaze through your work, deliver ahead of schedule, and astound your clients — because this baby really moves. Prices start at $1999.
Quad-Core G5 Processing With two dual-core processors, at speeds up to 2.5GHz per core, the Power Mac G5 Quad doubles the punch of its dual-processor predecessor. Do the math: Quad-core processing means four Velocity Engines and eight double-precision floating-point units for blistering performance of up to 76.6 gigaflops. That means you can manipulate mountains of images or miles of footage. Crunch enormous data sets. Encode HD video or high-bit-rate audio. All at speeds you never imagined possible.
CI Express Architecture A modern PCI Express architecture opens up a world of high-performance expansion cards to the Mac platform. Two four-lane slots and one eight-lane slot are designed for the latest video I/O, audio DSP, and Fibre Channel expansion cards — so you’ll have tremendous power and productivity in a single system.(1) And with 533MHz DDR2 main memory and integrated dual Gigabit Ethernet, you can customize your Power Mac G5 for your professional workflow — even join an Xsan media network while connecting simultaneously to the Internet.

Workstation Graphics Graphics assume a new level of realism with the latest PCI Express graphics cards. Drive two Apple displays — including a glorious 30-inch Apple Cinema HD Display — from every Power Mac G5. Or upgrade to the NVIDIA Quadro FX 4500, the industry’s fastest workstation graphics solution, for rapid-fire effects, 3D animation, and scientific stereo-in-a-window applications.(2) How much reality can you handle? Try adding up to eight all-digital Apple Cinema Displays to your Power Mac G5 and enjoy a veritable dreamscape of stunning visuals.(3)

Enormous Performance Gains Quad-core processing dramatically accelerates performance in real-world applications. Take, for example, Adobe After Effects: The Power Mac G5 Quad renders 3D images up to 69 percent faster than the fastest dual-processor Power Mac G5 ever built.(3)
