I have a Connect 3D Ati 9550 256mb graphics card. I have heard you can make it run like a 9600 pro. I searched google and results arnt as clear as i wanted. I heard you have to flash the chip and i heard you can just get different drivers. Can someone please tell me what to do, can i just get different drivers? Thanks

You could try the Omega drivers or the DNA Force drivers, they are made to get more performance out of a regular card.

Don't know about flashing the card though.

What i heard was that the catalyst drivers stop the card from being overclocked, i think someone said ou can use different drivers and use ati tool to overclock it. I need to know if other drivers will unlock this 'cap'. Thanks

first, ATI tray tools completly own ATItool. http://www.radeon2.ru/atitray/

second, here are the omega drivers, options during set up can let you choose if i remember correctly. http://www.omegadrivers.net/

third, you can flash the bios and get a new bios with the other 4 pipes enabled. i think thats how it goes, im not sure, let the 12 year olds flame me now. anyway, unlocking pipes from that card can cause issues. heat, artifacts, and faulty pipe lines. your best bet is to upgrade, since high risk damage to your card.

fourth, you CAN overclock with catalyt drivers. ATI is all for overclocking and testing.

It is possible to overclock the 9550. By default the ATITool automatically stops where you can overclock to, the max setting being 50%. There should be an option with ATITool to remove overclocking limitations. As I understand it, you should be able to push the clock speeds past 458MHz for the memory and to 500MHz (or above) for the GPU.

Good luck with your overclocking - and remember, if you do decide to overclock, make sure your card is properly cooled.

1337 you CAN overclock with catalyt drivers. ATI is all for overclocking and testing.
Only on XT cards, all others must use ATi-Tool/TrayTools/omegadrivers to unlock. I use Tray Tools, which comes with omega drivers.

Hardware forums I found useful over all others. http://www.devhardware.com/forums/f5/s
if you do decide to overclock, make sure your card is properly cooled.

True Dat! I don't overclock anymore, I've found it doesn't really help. A bios flash is best to get more performance, but I'm not game to try it. I find that my card tends to crash the pc before it gets to any "dangerous temperatures".

But i cant overclock it because the drivers wont let me. When i open atitool is says it has detected a 9200/9550 and says catalyst drivers ver 3.4 cant be used to overclock. I think it said get softmod drivers or something to do this. I will google it, Thanks for help peeps.

OMG! You have Catalyst 3.4? You do know this is a really antiquated driver do you?

Download Catalyst 5.10.

http://www.ati.com/

And do not forget to download .NET framework before installing the new drivers.
